    Cambridge 121 from my gp

I thought I'd do an update on my Cambridge 1:1 diet. I've lost a modest amount with it, about 7 kg over 3 months. Been a bit wary due to bg spikes. So I asked for a hba1c test. Good news is it came back as 39. Was 38 just before I started it. So apparently not a problem. I had lost 10 kg prior...

Had a visit with my dietician and diabetes nurse.

That's fab! Thanks for sharing. Will you still be offered eye and foot checks, even without seeing the nurse?

    Blurry vision

Some meal replacement shakes can be a bit carby. I've found my bg spikes much more quickly with a shake. I think because the 'food' is in powder form, and U drink it, it is easily processed and the sugars in the shake pass into the blood soon after ingestion. As @Rachox says, worth testing when...

    Carbohydrate sugars?

Thanks @Resurgam for the info. I've bought some 'sugar-free' wine gums etc and will need to avoid scoffing too much at one time to avoid such developments! [emoji13]

Doctor empathy linked to better health outcomes in type 2 diabetes

Great story. Hope they can do similar research on DSNs too. Really disappointed with mine, but so thankful to have found this place.

    Blister

Actually the doc said for me to get in the habit and not wait until neuropathy. I've always worn house shoes inside so not too diff for me. Too easy for a blister to go bad. But hey, all just opinions here for OP. [emoji106]

    Blister

Some good advice I received from a foot doc shortly after dx was to always wear footwear from now on, ie no bare feet in the house (ie slippers) and in the beach (good sandals) because easy to stand on something and not notice. Also always check footwear for grit or stone before putting it on...

    Lifestyle change coach

What reason has the GP given for offering this to you? How do you feel about trying it?

    Blister

Compeed are excellent. Do you have any neuropathy problems? Speak to the pharmacist and tell him/her about your diabetes too. Are your shoes right? Correctly fitting shoes shouldn't rub to cause blisters. If necessary, get the nurse at the GP surgery to look at it, but try pharmacist first? Good...

    Recent blood test

Well done for that reduction. Great job! No I can't speak about inhibitors. How long between tests? Do you think you could improve on your score at next test without extra meds?

    Annoyed at myself

I sometimes say 'Oh that's a shame, I've just eaten.' If I get pressed 'No honestly, I'm really stuffed' or 'Can I take a couple for later?' then walk away with a couple (which will go in the food waste bin in due course).. Re family, if you're planning on losing weight, you could say you're...

    Bit of a quandary

Am saddened to read of the difficulties OP's daughter and fm like @Brunneria are having with GPs. I guess it's a 'cost-saving' for the surgeries to restrict dx? I wonder if private c-peptide blood tests might help to demonstrate Insulin Resistance? High hba1c and T2 are results of IR. If low...

Ladies photoshoot - London 11th July? Closed, thank you!

I suppose you can't say the mag, but can you say what kind of genre? Women's lifestyle mag, weekend supplement, glamour mag!

    Diabetes and stress

@Brunneria I cross-posted. That's a great book, but these things are so subjective.

    In need of support

@coby Sorry if I've said the wrong thing. You need to know where you're at re diabetes, so need tests. If the nurse review can arrange these, great. GP can only suggest, you don't have to agree. If your diabetes is similar to what it was on dx, you may find upping your meds for a shot time might...

    Diabetes and stress

Also there's a scheme called Books on prescription. I would try the library first for that rather than your GP, as you've said your GP has prescribed diff meds to you but might not be aware of this?

    Diabetes and stress

@Lucylockett61 Havecyou enquired with your local library about books? Bibliotherapy is a recognised treatment that works for some, and all public libraries (in the UK) are participating in this scheme since last year, I believe.

    In need of support

@coby Big hugs to you. Here is one support network for you. I can't understand your losses. I lost my young nephew to sudden natural causes. I went downhill for a few years which tipped me into T2. You are only a few months from your latest blow. Please book your review and speak with your...
