Experience of bad control Hello to family who were concerned about child’s poor control. I responded about my 2/3 years of poor control and warning I was given by doctor. The message I was trying to portray was one of our ability to come through those difficult times. My response was well...

Has anyone here been a diabetic for more than 40 years?

I was a couple of years at least, not taking my diabetes seriously, from about 17 to 19 years old. This was from 1962-1964. My diabetes specialist told me I would not live another year, if I didn’t change. As above testing blood sugar levels were crude. We used to drop 5 drops of urine and 10...

Do we have any 50 yr medalists out there?

I have never been offered any medals (although I am not someone who would want the fuss of that) but I have had Type 1 for 74 years. There are many of us out there who are long time people with diabetes so it is becoming a lot less of a surprise. Ray B

Well done Charlie. That is brilliant. I have also just passed a milestone as I have done 74 years with Type 1. We can hopefully inspire others to catch us pass is with modern insulin and testing regimes. Once again we’ll done. Cheers Ray B

7 year old with type 1

Hello there, I was diagnosed at 8 months old and am now 74. I still remember running away from the District Nurse at injection time when I was a toddler. However, as a boy I fell in love with playing football and as a boy I was discouraged from playing because of my diabetes. This made me become...

    DaFNe scheme

Hello there, I have had Type 1 for 74 years and still I felt as though I learned a great deal from DAFNE. I am on Humalog and Lantau insulin regimes. If we look at what DAFNE stands for, without trying to be patronising, it is does adjustment for normal eating. The course I went on was very...

Perfect sugars before exercise, horrible after?

In my experience natural orange juice is very high in carbs, low carb dilute is better, so I am not surprised at peak in blood glucose levels You learn through experience. Ray B
