    LCHF and kidney stones

Hello. I've had one large kidney stone and been LCHF for years now. Kidney stones can be made from various different substances and whilst good hydration will help prevent any type from forming the specifics regarding diet vary (if I remember rightly). I think protein excess is mainly a culprit...

    retinopathy in one eye?

Oh. Oh. Thanks for the answer Tim. Shame as I thought my left eye was the good one! I'll have to work extra hard at looking after it now.

    retinopathy in one eye?

Is it possible to have retinopathy in one eye but the other be fine? I've just had my second eye 'de-cataracted' (that sounds awfully American, sorry) and found on leaving that the surgeon had written 'diabetic retinopathy' under co-morbidity. I know my right eye is fine so could he have seen...

    Liquorice, liquorice, liquorice!

Well I never knew there was so much to liquorice! I haven't bought any yet Prem51 (how do you do that tag thing and make it red??). I'm a bit cynical about there being any dangers to liquorice unless in real excess as all the Scandinavians, Icelanders and Dutch don't seem to be dropping like...

    Liquorice, liquorice, liquorice!

For all other liquorice lovers I contacted De Bron about carb content of their very large catalogue. This was the reply: Thank you very much for getting back to me Junilla. I shall be ordering some liquorice from you soon! I would like to pass your data onto the low carb forum at...

Can a spike in BG actually cause neural symptoms?

Hi all. I have noticed that when I was having frequent, highish BGs I would get horrible shooting, very itchy pains in the soles of my feet. I worried about neuropathy, cut right down on carbs, and they disappeared. Recently however my BGs have risen again in the mornings and yesterday I had...

Light beer which lowers blood sugar levels

I haven't tested yet but I think gin suits me fine. I avoid beer as I thought it was essentially 'liquid bread'? There are plenty of carbs in beer but spirits have them all turned into lovely alcohol which I think, if I remember my biochemistry, doesn't produce glucose (I might be guessing here...

How can I continue LC with kidney stones?

Thank you Winnie53! I must admit I can't face anymore pills etc. I already take a multivitamin, Pure EPA and Macushield plus a further 4 prescribed medications. I can now swallow 11 capsules etc. in one go! I'm glad to hear eggs are good as my chickens are laying more than 20 each week and I...

How can I continue LC with kidney stones?

Well I've had a scout around, but with enormous suspicion being a doctor and all too aware of how one person's idea can be blown huge by repetition on the internet! I still don't know if the stone is calcium or uric acid or both but I know almost everything I eat is high in one or the other...

How can I continue LC with kidney stones?

Oh dear. I was doing so well but now I have a large kidney stone and need a uteroscopy to remove it. I need to cut out/down on many of my staple foods like raspberries, eggs, spinach, nuts and chocolate. Does anyone have similar problems and dietary advice? :(

Low carb is the way to normal!

@Tweetypie I seem to live on raspberries, double cream, 85% chocolate, wholenut peanut butter, pecans, broccoli, spinach, cheese, bacon and chicken mostly. I used to eat brazil nuts more but found too many of them were bad and inedible. I have carbs in the house and cook macaroni cheese for the...

    LC snack ideas?

I carry a jar of whole nut, salt and sugar free, peanut butter and a spoon. I used to buy Tesco brazil nuts but too many are bad and I object to paying loads of money just to spit half of them out again. Sometimes I'll have pate, especially smoked mackerel pate, with lettuce leaves to 'spoon'...

    Troubles with LCHF

I have found that whole nut peanut butter, no salt or sugar added, is a great and palatable means of managing constipation. I'm not sure how much you might need though. Days when I eat a good few spoonfuls seem best.

I have also tried dessicated coconut and cocoa powder with Total, but it needs some tweaking and possibly a touch of sweetener.

    Sun and heat

It certainly can if you become dehydrated. I would guess it might if it is stressful, maybe.

Met the new DN - hmmm

I feel the same - can't see how much help the dietician could really be - but I'd like to see what she thinks of the low carb approach. Perhaps I'm just feeling argumentative... Maybe it's the result of all those ketones...? ;)

Met the new DN - hmmm

I bought a GlucoRx Nexus because the strips are much, much cheaper and I was too short of cash to keep paying my Aviva strip prices.
