Help! My weight loss has stuck

Thanks I should have said that I eat between 8 am and 6pm and then fast for the night. I have had to drink loads of water too, to prevent the dreaded constipation. All good advice though thanks. At least it confirms I'm doing the right things.

Help! My weight loss has stuck

I was diagnosed in November last year and have been on a low carb diet since. I was 14 st 2 lb BMI 28.9 at diagnosis. Aged 63 I have stuck to my diet and upped my exercise (Half hour walk, half hour on an exercise bike every day, weights twice weekly and refereeing two rugby games a week). Still...

    Amazing visit to GP

You are indeed lucky to have such an enlightened GP. I was offered an HBa1c test at the hospital when they found glucose in my urine when testing me for something else. When I went to see my GP for the results, it took him a while to find them. "Ah." He said at last. "The result is 53. You...

Fasting blood reading is going up

Ah. I have changed to a new tub of strips, so that may be the answer thanks. I have my repeat HBa1C test on 7th Feb, so I think I will just stay calm and wait to see what that tells me. It's a vicious circle isn't it? You worry and your BG goes up. the increase worries you and it goes up...

Fasting blood reading is going up

I've just had a further thought. Exercise after meals reduces my BG by up to 2 points. Is this a further sign that PIR may be the issue, please?

Fasting blood reading is going up

This is interesting thanks Bluetit 1802. I've actually gone the other way and reduced my carbs still further to try to get the numbers down. So that I am sure, are you saying that the numbers may fall if I increase my carbs for a few days and that if they do fall I can try going back to very...

Fasting blood reading is going up

I've stuck to pretty much the same diet throughout Walnut Face. I avoid all carb foods. The only carbs I get are from vegetables, nuts seeds etc. If anything my carb intake has fallen as I've cut out the occasional sandwich etc in the last month.

Fasting blood reading is going up

I was diagnosed with T2 in November. I've lost 1.5 stone in weight (10% of my body weight) on a low carb diet (less than 25gm per day). I now do at least an hour of exercise every day (A mix of rugby refereeing, exercise bike and power walking). My BS was average 5.9 fasting and 6.3 during...

    Caught a spike!

I was diagnosed only in November. Although I've lost 10% of my weight and exercised a lot, my BG has only just begun to fall and I still get spikes if I eat too many carbs. I'm learning not to panic if things don't go to plan. Just use the meter and realise it is a marathon we are on, not a...

Type 2 Newly diagnosed & confused

Hi Dee Aitch I too was diagnosed at the end of last year. My HBa1c was a bit lower than yours at 54, but it was still a huge shock I have settled into a low carb hi(ish) fat diet and have lost 19 lbs, roughly 10% of my weight. Loads of exercise and some weights to maintain my muscle mass. I...

    Average BG has risen.

Thanks for the advice guys. It's still early days for me and any setback seems like a disaster. I'll keep at it with my fingers crossed.

    Average BG has risen.

Hi folks I've been on a LCHF diet since diagnosis of T2 in November 17. I've lost 10% of my body weight and average BG fell from 7.9 in December to 6.3 two weeks ago. Fasting BG has never been below 6. Then two weeks ago my average BG began to rise. It peaked at 8.8 and has now stabilised...

How long for low carb diet to show in blood glucose level

I was diagnosed T2 in November with an Hba1c of 53. I've dieted and exercised and my bs is now generally in the normal range except that my fasting readings are sometimes above 6. I couldn't see any real improvement in the fasting numbers until I plotted them on a graph. The graph shows a...

Thanks Fruitella. I'm feeling better already, but those pesky BS numbers remain high.

    Dealing with illness

Six weeks into my diagnosis and my new diet and exercise are helping to reduce my BG numbers. I usually see 6.0 to 6.4 fasting reading in the morning and rarely above 7.8 during the day. I'm hoping the fasting readings will come down with time and perseverance. I was ill with a nasty tummy...

    Confused about carbs

I was diagnosed six weeks ago with HbA1c of 53. Since then I've lot 9 lbs, I exercise every day and I have cut out all the bad carbs and limited the good ones in my diet. It's far too early to say whether my BG is going the right way, but do I ever feel better than I did before. I have had...

    Newly diagnosed T2 and puzzled

Thanks for the information. I have another HbA1c test in February, so I'm hopeful that my efforts to lose weight and eat better will lower my score. Let me say that I'm not a typical type 2 candidate. I know it can affect anyone regardless of lifestyle, but I am 63, 5 foot 10 inches tall and...
