How important is washing your hands before a BG test?

I use Dia-wipe-Diabetes-finger-testing-wipes from Amazon. About £1.50 for a pack of 25. Very small package, ideal for handbags or pocket.

    mashed cauli

I cook mine in a steamer bag which stops it from getting too 'wet' then mash it. The steamer bags I get from the pound shop and work well for all veggies.

Thank you noblehead. No doubt my diabetes team will say it's not good enough and I should aim lower...

    Happy bunny!

Thank you! I was absolutely horrified when first diagnosed and so confused about it all. I've increased my exercise and gone low carb. I'm still finding out what spikes me but I'm determined to control this and not let it control me. No doubt there will be times when life isn't so rosy but for...

    Happy bunny!

Today I got my latest HBA1c results. I'm down to 51 after being at 92 when I was first diagnosed in July. I started off on Novamix, then moved from that onto Gliclazide, then off that and on to Metaformin and now no medication at all. Still go a bit to go and still unconfirmed whether they are...

Hi there. Happy New Year to you all.

Thank you RRB. I think a taxi might be best if that's the case. It's not actually too far to walk (40mins) but I'm suffering with sciatica at the moment so walking a distance isn't possible!

Hi there. Happy New Year to you all.

I'm due to have my first eye screening test tomorrow as a diabetic. I'm slightly confused! I have worn glasses for many years and have had a couple of retinopathy tests in the past but each time the advice was different. In the past I have been told not to drive after the test but when I had my...

    Very pleased with myself!

Hi Skinnylizzie. Thanks for your detailed post it has really helped me reading it this afternoon. I was diagnosed a couple of months ago and started out on Novomix 30 then moved to no Insulin but Gliclazide. I've been struggling with the dosage and the DN has recommended I try managing with...

    Confused by diagnosis

Hi there. It is difficult isn't it? I was diagnosed 5 weeks ago and similarly was told I had T1 with a very slim chance of T2. I was put on insulin twice daily (novomix 30) but had to reduce to once a day. I started at 10 units in the morning and 8 in the evening, this gradually reduced to 4 in...

    Yikes!

Thanks Ian. I think the advice of 'eat normal' was until I got my levels down a little as I immediately thought and worried about what I should eat. I have always followed a healthy lifestyle (until last year I taught dance and drama so was fit) plus ate very well. A good balanced diet etc: my...

    I can do this!

Well done! I'm going into my sixth week since being diagnosed T1 at the age of 52. Similar to you my HBA1C was 84 and last week it was 50 so I feel I'm getting there! It's certainly a challenge and it is early days but I'm trying to stay positive. Tiny steps :)

    Yikes!

Hi Ian Thanks for that I'll have a look on Amazon. I'm still reeling from the diagnosis and reading as much as I can about it. All very interesting, I might add :)

How old were you when you first diagnosed with type 1?? And how long do you have it??

Type 1 diagnosed 4 weeks ago at the age of 52. Major shock to the system! Struggling but getting there :)

Anyone else have fluctuating eyesight prescription with high BS?

I'm in my fourth week since diagnosis and Iike you I've had to wear my old glasses as the new ones I got 6months ago are too strong! I get blurred vision when my glucose levels are too high, that's how I know. Any idea how long I should leave it until I get my vision tested again folks? :)...

Just been told this afternoon that i have diabetes.

Hi Ann. It is a shock. I am newly diagnosed (4th week now) but I must say you will find lots of reassurance and help through others on this site. I've been dipping in daily and reading through all the great information available. I can honestly say that since being diagnosed I have never felt...

    Yikes!

Hi there. I'm a 52 year old newly diagnosed with T1. This is my third week of being on Insulin (Novomix 30) and I can honestly say I've never experienced so many emotions over such a short period of time! Disbelief, anger, shock, to name but a few. I started on two injections a day but am now...
