HBA1C down from 103 to 48 in 3 months of carb counting :-O....am down a waist size in my jeans too 38 to 36 though no significant weight loss but thats probably because of my new vice...salted peanuts...had been worried about my cholesterol with all the extra fat, but its only 4.17 so onwards...

Just a bit of an update....not one slice of bread has passed my lips in 2 weeks, down from an average of at least 8 slices per day....30g of Smash instead of half a dozen spuds at main meals, water instead of milk and my readings have plummetted, rarely above 7.0 at my 2 hour post prandials...

I was in a hospital appt but checked as I had read that Weetabix raises it slowly and wanted to rule that out....have checked that breakfast a couple of times previously and bloods have been lower than they started, but will keep checking to make sure.

Am well pleased with my results so far on day 4 of keeping my carbs low....had 2 weetabix and 100ml of semi skimmed as an emergency breakfast this AM and 3 1/2 hours later was only 5.4, expected to be in the 8's, so keeping carbs low at most times seems for me to work .....have a BP monitor also...

All this extra fat and salt i'm eating...will it have an effect on my blood pressure and/or cholesterol? My wife was in Slimming World and ended up with a kidney stone because of all the extra eggs and meat she was eating at the time [at least thats what the Urologist blamed] will low carbing...

Tried 100g of strawberries today just to confirm, and only went from 6.2 to 6.9 so must have been a faulty reading last night perhaps there was a trace of strawberry on my thumb if I had forgotten to wash my hands. Will eat similar food tonight and test hourly just to make sure :-)

Finally got my carbs to under 100 yesterday..95..have seen a dramatic drop in blood sugar averages since I started seriously carb counting on Friday, so it seems to be working ok for me. Have read in several places that strawberries are ok for T2's so having had a few small portions and seeing...

    No added sugar...

Artificial sweeteners, that was my next question...I presume they are ok [if tolerated] have read bad reports about Aspartame....had a couple of Stevia tablets in my tea at 9am along with 2 boiled eggs so will know soon enough :-)

    No added sugar...

Trying to reduce my carb intake from today and save a few test strips....generally speaking are products stated to have no added sugar safe for type 2's? Am thinking about fizzy drinks listed as having zero sugar, diluting juice listed as having no added sugar [0.3g carbs per 100ml] or little...

Have been keeping a food diary and perhaps my 300 carbs claim was a bit high...i had 226 yesterday and 148 the previous day still too high i know, but a major improvement for me, am eating about 1/4 of what i was 2 weeks ago so am bound to see an improvement soon...will give it another week to...

Is it total carbs i should be counting or the "of which sugars" carbs? maybe i've been counting wrongly....my diet has always been carb heavy but i've had diabetes for 8 years now and had fair control up until 6 months ago...i cut out the obvious sugars once diagnosed but just hit the chocolates...

Struggling a bit to balance diet between carbs and calories as i need to lose about 3 stone and unfortunately anything that i like with few carbs tends to be packed with calories.....had expected to be put onto gliclazide this time and was surprised when GP left things as they were...an added...

Hello all, Shocking HBA1C at my last test has finally spurred me to count my carbs....it has been building since i stopped smoking in feb 2016 with reading of 54, 65, 75 and now this. GP has kept me on 2000mg of metformin and 100mg of januvia and made me an appointment to see the...

    HGV and gliclizide

Hello all....anyone know if is legal to keep driving while the DVLA carry out their investigations? Looks like I will be progressing from Metformin to Gliclizide in the near future, HBA1C hasnt been that bad - think it was 55 under new readings the last time - but because of the dreaded "family...

    Metformin SR

Problem was I had no bother with Metformin in almost 6 years until this bout of diarhea, and felt my GP rushed into changing me to the SR although my sugars did seem to improve well after the switch....but I lost about 20lbs at roughly the same time so this would also have helped my sugars come...

    Metformin SR

Hello all and Merry Christmas :-) Had been on normal metformin [2x500mg morning and evening] since my diagnosis in '08 and everything was reasonably well controlled, but i started getting bad bouts of diarhea in the summer past, and without much investigation my gp changed me to 2x1000mg of...

    Morning reading

Bit of an urgent one if anyone can advise.....my morning readings have generally plummeted since i stopped drinking beer, to such an extent that am a bit wary of taking my metformin today lest i go hypo.....was 4.1 when i tested then 4.0 when i double checked 5 mins later, should i skip my tabs??

    Rubbery taste off metformin

Hello. Has anyone else noticed a rubbery taste off the metformin tablets lately? Dont mean an after-taste but off the tablets themselves?
