    To test or not

When I was diagnosed 2 years ago my HBa1c was 78 and I was told for the first 3 months to check before and 2 hours after breakfast, lunch, tea and test before going to bed. I had a chart that I had to record everything on including blood sugar numbers and what I ate. I was given my test meter...

    Hypos at work - discrimination.

It always helps to be up front about being diabetic and what it involves and what can happen. When I was diagnosed with T2(which I know is totally different to T1) I straight away told my line manager and was asked if I needed any reasonable adjustments in place. You never know when you might...

Fruit good or bad for you

I was diagnosed last June and given a meter straight away and was told to check all meals for the first three months. Even now if I eat something different I check and I can put in a repeat prescription for testing strips.

Things I learned from this forum

I was diagnosed early June and my card came through within a couple of weeks. The pharmacist said it would save me having to pay for my first prescription then put a claim in when my card came through as I could prove it was diabetes related.

Things I learned from this forum

I have nothing but praise for my doctor and a brilliant diabetic nurse who is only ever a phone call away if I need to speak to her. The pharmacist was very good and advised me on do's and don'ts . When I started on metformin the pharmacist phoned me twice in a month to make sure I was ok and...

Things I learned from this forum

My doctor filled out the form for me and all I had to do was sign it and post it off. When I went to get my prescription I explained about I had just filled the form in and they ticked the exemption box for me.

Low fat or full fat dairy?

My nurse told me to go for full fat plain yoghurt then add fruit yourself so you know how much fruit is in it (or eat it plain). Tastes good with cinnamon in.

The doctor gave me two weeks to get used to the idea and read up on diabetes then two weeks later I saw the diabetic nurse who has been fab. It has come as a shock but I am determined to turn a...
