Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Why do you say the liver shrinking diet is going to be so full of carbs? That is not the case for any that I’ve come across. They are usually very low calorie and very low carb.

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

I have never been on insulin, I am T2 diabetic and have been in remission since April 2015, up until then I was on 500mg metformin daily. Oh, I’ve just noticed that the avatar says I am an insulin dependent T2. That is not true and I can’t find how to change it. I’m sure your bariatric team...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

The liver shrinking diet is only done for the week or two immediately before surgery. The purpose is to shrink the liver to make lifting the liver out of the way possible and not for weight loss. Different hospitals have different regimes and you should follow whatever their recommendations...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Sorry to hear about the nightmare. You asked some other questions that I haven't answered. I'm not on any diabetic meds. My bg has been at normal levels since 2015, so before the bypass. I've never seen a diabetic consultant. The reason for my underactive thyroid has never been explored or...

I will attempt to PM you later, but this is incredibly rare and I still have complete faith in the surgeon.

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Golly, this is an old thread that I had forgotten about. Here follows an update if you are interested (it could take a bit of reading). I finally got the psych consult and I think I saw her twice, maybe three times. To be honest it wasn't as helpful as I had hoped, her focus was more to assess...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

I thought I'd replied to this but obviously never posted it. Did anyone listen to You and Yours yesterday (11th November 2014), specifically on weight loss surgery, available on listen again for the next week. Some very interesting comments about genetic pre-disposition and hormonal changes...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Thank you Jack, as you say the knowing and doing are separate things, which is where all the head stuff comes in. I rarely eat rubbish and am a very good cook, with a meal cooked from scratch most evenings. I will listen to the link. I was 104kg 8 years ago and working on it after finally...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Please, please, please could I ask that you leave diet and lifestyle suggestions out of this thread. I have had it up to the earlobes with advice from well meaning people. I can do the maths of calories in and calories out. I could give lessons on simple and complex carbs; GI calculations...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Oh, and your mother losing a friend through something bursting after overeating after a lap band? Well she obviously didn't have her head sorted out about her eating issues before having surgery. This is precisely why I'm doing my research and taking my time. Lap band surgery has fallen out of...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Thanks Paul for your input. To be honest a stone in six weeks is what you should expect from any diet. I'm glad it is working for you and your wife. Enjoy your whiskey (presumably not scotch). I don't have any problem losing weight, I can see your stone in six weeks, match it and better it...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

I saw the consultant this morning. Good chat, next appointment in three months. Good news is that I don't have sleep apnoea, bad news is that the psych consult could take another 2 or 3 months. I want to be sure my head is the right place before any other decisions. Maybe if I can address my...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Totto, I've been there, got the T-shirt, etc. I am 58 and changed my lifestyle several times. I've successfully lost weight several times and sustained both the lifestyle and the weight loss for up to 2 years. Then something happens that knocks me off course and the weight goes back on. It...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

So sorry to have not replied. I didn't realise there were any as the e-mail notifications had stopped. Loobles, thank you so much for your full and honest response. I don't think I have a full blown eating disorder (EDNOS, Bulimia, etc), but I do think I have an unhealthy relationship with...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

AndBreathe I totally agree with you, some people consider weight loss surgery a quick fix or the easy way out. It's not easy nor a quick fix. And it will not work unless you are fully prepared to follow it through. I'm trying to decide if I'm ready and if it is right for me.

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Yes, I am down for a psych consult but the waiting time is up to six months (3 months in). I don't think I'm at risk of melting chocolate or making Ben & Jerry smoothies. I eat healthily, just too much. It's just the comfort of feeling full. Difficult to describe really. When you've been...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Where are you HLD? The gastric sleeve wasn't offered to me. The gastric bypass is also a laporoscopic (sp) procedure. I've been told that the gastric sleeve doesn't have the same affect on T2 diabetes as the bypass does.

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

I did use a low carb high fat diet to lose some weight about 33 years ago. It was successful but I put it back on +. I also tried a very low calorie diet when I was 17 or so. Again successful but weight went back on. I did low fat in my 30s, very successfully but put it back on +. In my 50s...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

Thank you hid1904 and Pipp. The surgeon has recommended the gastric bypass so I don't have the option of the gastric band. I've asked for a psych consult as well. My weight gain is to do with bereavement, stress and disability so I have some emotional issues to take care of before I make a...

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

I'm so new to this forum, I don't know how to send a private message to @Geordie lass. When I was reading another thread I did notice that someone else referred to their bariatric weight loss support group but I failed to take a note of their name and can't find it again.
