    Advice appreciated

Thanks for advice. Don't know what went wrong with previous reply but will try again. There is logic in my forum name. Stewart Platt = Stewp plus ID = Stewpid so not so stupid really . Not modest, just trying to be clever. Appreciate all support from the Forum

    Advice appreciated

I have been T1 for 20 years and usually been well controlled. But now I am worried as I don't seem to be able to get my BS under control. Despite self dosing for about 12 years (DAFNE) I have recently found my readings still up in the mid teens after meals and this has worsened over the past...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

I agree it is confusing sometimes when people quote different measures of HbA1c, so I try now to quote both measures. The conversion is pretty simple too. So my last result was 53, which converts to (53+24) / 11 = 7.0%

Update on Sertraline and BG readings/hypos

A week or so ago I asked if anybody had experience of taking Sertraline and if it affected BG readings as I have been having quite a number of hypos/low readings since I have been taking it. Well I saw my GP last week and she has not heard of Sertraline affecting T1D BGs. So today I had lunch...

    Lots of hypos...

I think the advice given here is spot on but the one thing that stood out for me is that your employers get annoyed when you leave the shop floor to take insulin. Diabetes is covered by the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) and as such employers have to make "reasonable adjustments" to enable...

Wear a bracelet that says you have diabetes!

Great news! Bracelet arrived and I'm really chuffed with it. It anybody sees it and wants to label me a diabetic then that's their prerogative. It won't worry me because I now feel a bit safer.

Wear a bracelet that says you have diabetes!

Try the link for the ID Band Co. That's where I ordered mine from including engraving of personal details. www.theidbandco.com/Bracelets

Wear a bracelet that says you have diabetes!

Great discussion and to balance out the negativity I have just ordered my bracelet and medical ID card to carry in my wallet with conditions/medication etc. Recently been struggling to keep BG up and getting really worried that I might have a hypo when out alone or with nobody who knows me...

    Sertraline and Type 1 Hypos

Thanks @Lhardy5973 for useful advice. I already test 6-8 times a day as I self dose (DAFNE) so will carry on and hope it settles. Real issues only started when dose of Sertraline was increased but this may be coincidence and I could be making 2+2 = 5..... Due to see GP again next week to...

    Sertraline and Type 1 Hypos

Good morning all I started on Sertraline about 6 weeks ago and doctor increased dose to 100mg about two weeks ago. They seem to be having the desired effect (less anxiety etc) but I worry that they are having an adverse effect on my control and appear to be suffering more hypos, and often...

Made a big mistake in the pub

I think @Tipetoo has got the logic all wrong. 1. RosieLKH ordered a diet lemonade, the pub said they didn't have it 2. The pub offered diet Pepsi as a "reasonable alternative", which RosieLKH agreed she would have 3. If the pub had said "we don't have diet lemonade but we can do you a full...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Not been on the Forum for a while. Disappointed that mine is 66 (8.2) when it was 53 (7.0) in May. Blood pressure is causing issues, gaining weight, and generally unwell. Need to get back on track so today I start again.....

    Won't go down!!

Is this a conspiracy to bump off a few diabetics under the Governments spending cuts review? See my latest contribution on the "Lantus stopped working" thread. Seems odd to me that quite a number of people are having the same problems with BG control. :?

lantus seems to have stopped working

Hi, It's a while since I've been on the forum, but it's amazing how relevant this thread is to the reason I'm back on. I did a dose ajustment course about a year ago and I was really pleased with the difference it made to me. My regular readings were down in the 6's and my HbA1c was the...

    Lost NHS Medical Exemption card

Thanks for that Ken. Although I've got a number of problems, the need for "wigs and appliances" hasn't yet arisen.

    Lost NHS Medical Exemption card

Ken Presumably you don't need an exemption certificate if, like me, you live in Wales, where nobody pays for prescriptions any more. Regards Stewart

    Alcohol and high BG levels

Hi Nannoo Now I'm no expert but I am surprised that your BG levels went up. Because the liver is busy processing the alcohol, it interferes with its ability to process glucose. This usually means that the BG levels go down and you are more at risk of hypos. That is why, as a Type 1, I...

    Painful injections

I know this has been discussed before but last night was the first time I have experienced it. I injected (in my stomach) at about 9.30pm last night and the injection was quite painful. Not unusual, but the discomfort normally passes quickly with a good rub. However, it was tender for the...
