How do you (Type 1's) lose weight?

Simply avoid all wheat products. Wheat is broken down almost instantly to glucose in the stomach. Most other carbohydrates are much better eg. porridge, rice, root vegetables.

    Agamatrix wavesense jazz

All Type 1 diabetics are entitled to use a BG testing deivce that they are happy with and confident of the results. If your surgery has changed your device/strips without consulting you, then you need to compose a letter informing them of your requirements and that you wish to continue to use...

    Hba1c too low for DAFNE?

Mine is very low and I get told off all the time by the DSN, but after I told her I had stopped driving, she wasn't that bothered. I feel much better with it very low and I have had no serious hypos in over 2 years. So if you drive, the HCP's will be concerned, but, if not then just get on...

[MEDICAL SAFETY ALERT] Accu-Chek mobile & Accu-Chek mobile test cassette

I've only ever had a few insufficient blood warnings. The secret to using this device is to hold it with the test area in an uppermost position - it doesn't need to be vertical, a slight angle is preferable. It is now much easier to see the hanging blood drop just touching the tape. There is...

    Type one and fruit

Strawberries- brilliant snacking food with no signiicant effect on my BG. I think rasberries are similiar in that respect. The worst fruits for BG increase are bananas, especially when ripe.

    Urinary infection

Indeed, if it's not manufactured by big pharma, then most GP's aren't interested. It is just a simple sugar so certainly can't do any harm to try it and will not affect blood glucose levels.

    Urinary infection

Try taking D-mannose as a cure and prevention of re-infection. There are plenty of articles on the internet and here is one: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/04/28/d-mannose-uti-prevention.aspx

    Accu-Check Mobile problems

They are much cheaper on ebay, last 2 casettes (100 tests) I bought were only £18. Expiry was well into 2017. I do get them on prescription but I like to keep some spare.

You need to slide open the test area cover, before you can release the casette flap.

    Accu-Check Mobile problems

Accu-chek Mobile is very much like Marmite. You either love it or hate it. I am in the former category.

Can I eat Potato Chips if I have type 1?

I absolutely hate those Pringle things that have never seen a potato. They are so full of salt it's untrue. Much better to stick to potato crisps that are actually potatoes. The best ones I have ever tasted are Mackie's of Scotland. They do a Scotch Bonnett chilli flavour that is to die for...

    GLUCOLAB meter?

Needs a lot more blood than Freestyle Lite. I was given the Element also from Neon diagnostics, although they are both manufactured in Korea, but it read so high that it was not detecting quite severe hypos. So I complained to the Nurse Manager and she said that as I was type 1, I was allowed...

    Lucozade for hypo correction

In my case I mainly use Lucozade as BG raiser between main meals rather than actual hypo treatment, as I don't want or need the extra calories in biscuits and other snack foods.

    Lucozade for hypo correction

The original is better as it only contains glucose. The reason for this, is that a full 380ml bottle of original is used for the standard glucose/tolerance test.. All I am pointing out is why consume excess calories in the form of fructose when it can be avoided? There are many nutrionists...

    Lucozade for hypo correction

I'm certain that many of you including myself drink Lucozade, but I've just discovered that the fruit flavoured varieties are different from the original. The fruit ones contain glucose/fructose syrup, whereas the original has only glucose syrup. What this means is that you need approx. twice...

    Type 1: Prescription fine

It must be even easier to claim no wrongdoing, for those that have never had any certificate, due to failure of all medical professionals and pharmacists to advise or request sight of card, over many years.

    Type 1: Prescription fine

Very typical for this govt. - Don't put any thought into new policies/regulations - just launch them on the public and wait to see if they are accepted but if there are too many complaints then think about an alternative approach, otherwise leave it as was.

    GlucoTrack -non-invasive blood glucose monitor

Just read that leaflet which states the bottom of the measurement range as 3.9 mmol/l , so it wouldn't be very effective in determining hypos, although I suppose it will state Lo which could be adequate.

    Accu-Check Mobile problems

Never had a E-3 error in 2 years. I've had about 1% Insufficient blood errors. It also gives very close comparison results with Accu-chek Aviva and Freestyle Lite strips. As stated above, their customer services are brilliant.

    Type 1: Prescription fine

The sort of response from NHSBSA I would expect. I hope they don't issue further penalty charges since you have now admitted to them that you have not held a MEC since 1990. There is a post elsewhere on this thread that suggests they only have records going back 2 years, so I would be careful...
