Have the rules changed again, or am I out of date?

Can anyone point in the direction of Bernstein having published any of his base data which would withstand, or has withstood, analysis by a peer group review? I read his tome - then quickly binned it. Anecdotal and as far as I could ascertain unsubstantiated; cherry picked to suit his...

No benefit of self-testing for type 2

I have not regularly checked my BG levels for some time yet my latest HbA1c (last week) was 5.6. I would argue that testing over a longer term it is not as essential as some might have us believe. After diagnosis I tested twice per day only and within a relatively few months reduced my BG and...

Husband of Diabetic in distress, needs help!!

I found with the other part of this household that mood swings came matched fluctuating sugar levels - and from time to time still do. I was not diagnosed until 13 years later but, as I have mentioned elsewhere, the diagnosis was the best news I had because I knew what the problem was and could...

    What about us?

Best news I had was being diagnosed T2. Given the years of symptoms (recognised retrospectively - hindsight being a a great thing) which I put down to working long hours it was a relief to know that it was something I could come to terms with just a little willpower and get a grip of quickly -...

    What is evidence?

"Surely if they had the will, DUK could send out a survey leaflet in Balance, & publish the results." Why waste money on a so called survey that would be, apart from lacking verifiable 'evidence', be skewed from the outset. More diabetics don't subscribe than do so. A longnitudinal study...

    About meters

Meters need not be expensive. I happened to be in Boots in Haddington a week or so ago and they had three different Aviva meters each priced pennies under £17.00. However, only 12 miles away the High Street chemist all three meters were on sale priced under £6.00. Somewhere in the middle...

What's more accurate-retinal screening or opthalmologist?

There is perhaps more to examining digital images obtained by computer screening than simple observation by 'untrained' operators. It would appear that software algorithms are available which will detect potential problems from a single image. Once more than one digital image is available for...

My letter to DUK in response to complaints on this forum abo

And the depth of the fluff in the navel is......? Reality is that until some controlled study is conducted we will never know. And again, simply observing on an individual basis that BG is 'better'/'lower' says nothing without some measure of what the overall impact on the 'whole' might be/is...

My letter to DUK in response to complaints on this forum abo

How to get up noses in one easy lesson: "Your dietary advice is rubbish". Says it all really. There is a bit more to life as a diabetic than simply getting and maintaining a low Bg level - and while lots of us have achieved that goal its not always been done by the engineering approach of Dr...

    Testing and Statistics

Perhaps I should end my comments on this thread by repeating that the use of the two daily test results was to show that my diet regime was having a positive effect and reducing my blood glucose levels towards the target hat I set. It sees to me that the simple methodology did exactly what I...

    Testing and Statistics

This thread is a split from ,' Please Explain something for me ' in 'Ask the Experts'. I only ever tested twice a day; before breakfast and before my evening meal. I managed my HBa1cs to between 5 and 6 by removing all biscuits and sweets/puddings and by adopting portion control which, by...

Can type 1 ever come off insulin ?

Worth googling the doc in the tree of life. Some interesting stuff from other sites, like: "He has seen thousands of people cured from deadly diseases, including Type 1 Diabetes, Parkinson’s Disease and AIDS, but not a single documented case, no, not one – just his testimony, that’s why they...
