My number has rocketed during covid

Yes, I do well when I cut out all bread / potatoes / pasta and rice - and will do that again. I think I need a drastic kickstart on the shakes just to motivate me, maybe throwing in some chicken, salad and veg for fibre. It’s my own fault - I comfort are takeaways and biscuits during lockdown...

My number has rocketed during covid

Today my practice nurse rang to say my HbA1c is 86. It’s always been in the 50s. I was very upset and ashamed (had a little cry after the call, if but she says everyone has really suffered during lockdown. I spent nearly 18 months mostly alone mostly working at home but taking walks when I...

Exante diet and low calorie food week

Hi I’m doing a halfway house with two Exante shakes and then a 400 calorie evening meal (usually chicken or fish with roasted veg or salad) I’ve lost a stone and a half in 40 days but need to lose another couple of stone. It is tough and I haven’t lost any weight for a few days now (I’m not...

Type 2 The Newcastle diet advice

Hello I’m plateauing but down one and a half stone since Jan 25 (about 42 days). Moved on to Exante shakes with water for breakfast and lunch (200 cals each) and a 400-calorie dinner. My clothes are loose and I feel much better. How are you all doing?

Wow that’s brilliant! I’m 24 days in and have lost 1st 5lbs in total (not much in the last few days though). It’s my birthday today so may go off message! The Exante shakes with water are much better than Slimfast but not as filling.

Type 2 The Newcastle diet advice

Wow you’re doing brilliantly! Well done! I had a terrible hba1c reading of 59 this week but it’s early days and the scales / daily blood tests show I’m on track too. Fingers crossed we’re popping fewer meds by the summer x

Yes that’s the long term plan. I’m a teacher so a quick shake works for lunch. I know it’s working as I’m losing weight and my daily blood tests are all good.

    Crying

Thanks everyone, you’ve made me feel much better and I won’t give up. Yes the Slimfast shakes have 38g carbs each, but the Exante 16 so I’ll switch right away. My ultra skinny doctor can do one, I’m determined to reduce or one day stop taking my meds, rather than being forced on to more. You’re...

    Crying

I was using Slimfast so maybe that’s the problem? I’ve decided to switch to Exante but I’ll check that too. That’s the one Prof Taylor put his patients on. Thank you.

    Crying

I’m having a 200-calorie shake for breakfast and for lunch, then a small meal (chicken or fish with some veg) for dinner. My bloods are always 4-6 and I’ve had no potatoes, bread, rice, pasta for alcohol for three weeks now. I’ve been using Prof Taylor’s book and using the recommended meal...

    Crying

My Hba1c was 47 at the last test. A new test taken this week is 59 despite me being on the Newcastle diet for three weeks and losing over a stone. I’m already on 2000mg metformin a day and hoped to reduce that rather than the doctor now lecturing me and saying I’m not trying hard enough. What...

    Feeling cold at perfect sugars

Yes! I wore gloves in bed last night. I’ve been lowering my blood sugar via diet and now my fingers, nose and toes are like ice cubes.
