    Dexcom One Questions

I can get my readings from dexcom one onto my garmin bike computer using Nightscout via the app Shuggah, and this also works for Garmin watches. I have an iPhone and Apple Watch which can run the Shuggah app and show readings as well.

    Bad sugar day

mine was a bit like that over the weekend. Surprise surprise this morning I've got a stinking cold. For me, erratic BS results either means I'm about to start my period (sorry if TMI) or I'm about to get a cold. The first is relatively predictable but colds are quite rare for me and its a pain...

    Always eating sweet stuff?

I've been known to consume the odd maccys frozen lemonade because on a hot day they are really refreshing. I do like you and take the extra insulin. Don't think I'd want to do it every day though as the more insulin you have the bigger the potential errors in calculation can be. We can't have...

    How dangerous are Hypos ?

I find my doc and nurse seem to get twitchy at anything below 4, yet my non diabetic boyfriend will regularly test out in the 3s after a long cycle (regularly as in most times he does long rides and I decide to test him, not each day) I test him for interest from time to time. I know when my...

Hard exercise with T2 and insulin

I play ice hockey and find I have to inject less when playing/training. I get a slight rise in BS while playing but find it balances itself out later when it reduces. I wouldn't start exercising below 6, find I might get to 10 or 12 by the end of an hour but then be back down between 4 and 7...

How do you record your diabetes?

I used to not bother writing them down. My DSN gave me a little book but it's really fixed in terms of before and after meals and not much else. I do use it now but with a pinch of salt attached. Mainly because she finds it easier to read than from my meter. If I've tested to drive home from...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

What is the highest blood glucose level ever recorded?

Mine was 21 at diagnosis. Touch wood I've never been ill in my 15 years that has meant I can't eat/test/inject myself though with colds and things I can sometimes get into the early 20s. Some of your stories make me feel really lucky. Hope you all recovered.

    Contact lenses

In type 1 and so is my mum. I'm a part time lenses wearer (sporting use mainly) but I prefer my glasses for using the computer doing a lot of CAD work so tend to wear them to work. My mum wears them full time and has no issues and she's been diabetic 40 years. Just important to keep up all the...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I was 4.6 this morning. 6.1 before bed. Before bed to waking is always pretty constant, it's having a lie in that catches me out. If my 'fasting test' is after about 10.30 it will be 8-11 regardless of what I was before bed. Have to have +1 unit with breakfast and often -1 unit with evening meal...

What do you dislike most about diabetes? Is there anything you like?

I'm fine with spontaneity as mentioned upthread, I tend to just do things as life is too short. I do have a phobia of the NHS though, doctors waiting rooms, hospitals, blood tests (which require myself, my other half to hold me down and a good hour of recovery following bad experiences as an 11...

    Forbidden treats..what are yours

I love a croissant wth ham and cheese but these are usually reserved for when I go skiing. No additional bolus needed, just a couple of black runs... Other than that, it's proper chip shop chips and curry sauce. I have a proper salty tooth rather than a sweet one when I need some naughty food...

Type 1 diabetes rant :). ( revised title ). DIABETES RANT.

I do see the truth in elements of this rant. I'm type 1 and have no experience of type 2, so I only say this as a response to my own experience. However, there is a probably largely unjust view in the public/press that 'diabetes' is caused by sitting on your **** and eating Burger King 3 meals a...

DVLA revoke licence even though GP advised me fit to drive

I don't test immediately before driving every day. I know a number of diabetics and none of them do. I do test at other times during the day. Only testing before driving each day wouldnt help my overall bg control. Getting a bigger overall picture is far more useful than every day at 8.30 before...

DVLA revoke licence even though GP advised me fit to drive

I read it the same as iHs. As long as tests are within 2 hours. I was advised 'at times relevant to driving'. This is why I need to know if the DVLA and GP are interpreting this the same way. Sometimes I'll test at say 4, because that is 3 hours after I've eaten to check if my dosage was...

DVLA revoke licence even though GP advised me fit to drive

I usually test 4-8 times per day depending on activity level usually (am quite sporty) although more if ill or if there has been a diet change (e.g I usually have the same lunch but if we do a work trip out and it's different I will test more.) I could accept if this isn't what the DVLA want to...

DVLA revoke licence even though GP advised me fit to drive

So today I received a letter from the DVLA saying that my renewal application was being rejected on medical grounds, but the only reason they gave was that they did not believe I confirmed to their testing while driving requirements. I have never had a hypo at the wheel, or one requiring...
