    Yes get on the insulin as soon as you can i have been diagnosed for 5 years 2 months and i am only on novorapid still. I strongly believe this is because i went on novorapid from day 1 despite the consultant trying to persuade me otherwise

    It would have been best to start on fact acting insulin and use this before meals only. This helps to keep your numbers in the normal range for a larger percent of the time helping to preserve any remaining beta cells

    How many carbs do you have a day?

    Typically have around 200 grams of carbs and inject one unit per 10g. for evening meals i typically inject 8 just before i eat then another 2/3 units 2 hours laters as my blood sugar tends to spike at like 10/11 pm otherwise

    Stay on insulin from day one dont put it off it will lengthen your honeymoon period Best way to work out insulin to carb ratio is to inject 1 unit and eat a normal bag of crisps circa 15g carb. See how this affects your blood sugar and adjust accordingly

    i am 4.5 years into my honeymoon. stayed on insulin straight away which i believe has lengthened the honeymoon period only on novorapid 1 unit per 10g carb
