    DIY looping

Hi. I have been DIY looping with libre, Miaomiao, Glimp, combo and AndroidAPS since mid July and am loving it. Just wondering how many others on here joined in with the #wearenotwaiting ethos and have built their own pancreas. I've got my first review coming up at the hospital and am wanting to...

    Fiasp Duration

Since starting to loop I use a duration of 6 hours and this seems accurate as it appears to have a very long tail off where the dose is very low but does lower BG. Depending on the type of food I am eating I find a prebolus of 20 mins followed by an extended bolus of 1-3 hrs does the job unless...

    Slimming world and Type 1

Hi Lou, I can’t praise SW enough! I was diagnosed type 1 30 years ago and lost 5 stone in 14 months with Slimming World. I have maintained this weight loss for 2 years now. My diabetes is so much easier to control - basal is down from 46units per day to just over 12 (on a pump). With every 10lb...

    Libre Vs Finger Prick

I found that it was accurate if my BG was between 5 and 8. If I was higher than this the readings were often way out and add I relied on them I would have massively over-corrected. BG of 9 sometimes gave be readings of 17! When I was in the low 4’s I would get readings below 3, and it wasn’t...

    New T1 And Completely Overwhelmed!

Hi there. It is overwhelming at first - for everyone, so this is perfectly normal. You have been diagnosed at a time of massive changes - from greater pump availability, flash and continuous glucose monitoring and high carb / low fat being accepted as a viable choice. I have been type 1 for 30...

need some help with temp basal

The basal covers your needs when not eating. When you eat carbs you take a bolus to cover this. I may be ignorant of the reasons so sorry for asking why you need to alter your basal? If I had to do it for just 1 day, I would use the % change designed for exercise or health events

Test strips not available for handset that bluetooths to pump!

Thanks all. Hospital phoned back and Accu Chek are sending some out 1 box of 50 and I can ring back in three days and request some more. Makes me wonder why they can’t send them to chemists this way.

Test strips not available for handset that bluetooths to pump!

Mine have been trying for two weeks - apparently it’s a national problem but some areas have managed to get small deliveries. Accu chek website says they hope the problem will ease in the coming weeks!

    Thailand Holiday

I spent a year travelling through Malaysia and Thailand with my pump. When I knew I’d be in water, I planned it by the hour. If my hourly dose was 1unit I gave myself 0.5 swam etc for an hour then gave myself the other 0.5 unit when I got out and plugged back in. Trains were so cheap I always...

Insulin Pump, Weightwatchers and waking night horrors

I can’t offer much advice about the insulin changes but I would switch from weight watchers to Slimming World. Virtually no counting needed and so much easier to follow. You may even be able to get a GP referral for 12 weeks free. I’ve lost six stone with them and the impact on my diabetes...

Test strips not available for handset that bluetooths to pump!

Is anyone else on the Accu-chek combo? I went to collect my test strips today and was told that they have not been available for a few weeks and that there is currently no return date due to distribution problems. GP says they can’t do anything and that she wouldn’t know what to do even if she...

    Please help urgent advice needed!

If your pump is still working I would continue to use it. Batteries take a while to corrode so if your glucose levels have been as expected, tonight should not be noticeably different to last night (you are just aware that there maybe an issue). Consider setting an alarm for 2am to do a quick...

"Best" things doctors have said to you

Two spring to mind. My Mum took me to the doctors the day after my 15th birthday because all I did was sleep and drink. Doctor did a glucose test with the result saying 'reading too high for machine' (or similar). He looked at me and said 'you should be dead young lady! Mum fainted and banged...

    Dvla/dvsa lisences

How do you do this for £26 per fortnight? I have got a Libre and with tax relief it’s just under £50 for a sensor which lasts 14 days. Love to hear if you’ve found a cheaper supplier

    Work moan.

Horrendous response! In addition to this, I think they may be advising you to break the law as I seem to remember reading somewhere that your insurance may not be valid if driving with BG above 12mmol. Has anyone else more info on this?

    Pump Referral Appointment

I asked for one on a Thursday at my antenatal clinic and got one the following Tuesday! They mentioned that I had it to support the pregnancy and could keep it while breast feeding so I breast fed my son until his second birthday! By then, I'd had it for almost three years so it had become my...

    Freestyle Libre...

I had my annual review at the hospital on Tuesday and towards the end, the nurse asked me if I knew what the Freestyle Libre was. I said that I had but wasn't convinced about the costs involved. She then told me that she had them to give away free to pump users (they believe that all pump users...

    Funding and changing hospitals

The fact that you want to plan a pregnancy should get you a pump. My HbA1C was 6.1% and I wanted to have an easier pregnancy with my second child (first born at 34 weeks due to polyhydramnious). As soon as I said I wanted to plan a pregnancy, I qualified for a pump without any application for...

Type 1: Extremely high blood sugar levels

I agree with what has been said - the weight loss will be down to the high blood sugar levels as your body is burning fat for energy. Have you tried injecting in a completely different site to ensure proper absorption? Have you been ill - possible infection? This has a major affect on my BG...
