Type 1 How can I gain weight?

I've always been pretty skinny. I'm just over 6ft and before diagnosis I peaked at about 150lbs. Since diagnosis though, I've lost about a stone in weight and have struggled to put it back on. I now weight around 135-40lbs. Last week my BMI was calculated by my hospital to be 18.4, which isn't...

Type 1 Am I the only one?

Sometimes I give myself a hypo by shoving a unit or two extra on top of my meal time dose just so that I can justify eating something **** and sugary and nice. Am I the only one? Surely not...

    Morning Rise

Hi, Overnight I went from 8.5 up to 10.5 and I have no idea why. I know about the dawn phenomenon but o thought that only happened when it dropped low during the night and I highly doubt k dropped low with an 8.5 reading before bed. Could there be any other explanation?

    University

I'll have a look at this, thanks! I'm studying Geography as of September - part of the School of Geosciences which is itself part of the College of Science and Engineering (I think)...

Thanks for all of the replies. I'll look into their health service some more over the coming months and hopefully the transition shouldn't be too difficult.

    University

Hi, I'm off to uni in September. Being diagnosed only three months ago I'm just getting settled in to my hospital and all that stuff. My prescriptions are all set up and my chemist knows my needs. So I'm kind of concerned about the possibility of all of that being thrown in the air for me to...

    Medical Exam

They didn't tell me to have loads of carbs, no. However, I am still to put back on the weight I lost before diagnosis so I do need to gain some weight.

    Medical Exam

Thanks! I've already had an eye screening and talks to someone about my diet so this shouldn't be too difficult.

    Medical Exam

Hi, I was diagnosed with type 1 in December and have a "full medical exam" with a consultant (or something) next week. I was just wondering what exactly this involves - I've never had a medical before - and whether any of you have any experiences you can share about yours (if you had one). Thanks

    Changing Lantus Dose?

Hi, I'd been doing pretty much perfectly with managing my big levels until around the start of this week. Since then, my evening and before bed reading have gradually got much higher (sometimes touching 15 before bed) and my day time readings have increased by around 2. At first I thought this...

    Gap Year Worries...

Hi, I'm coming up to the end of sixth form now and am considering the possibility of taking a gap year with my friend before starting university. As of yet (because I am less than a month diagnosed) I have not been away from home for an extended period of time... My BIGGEST worry (currently it...

    Never had a hypo...

What might cause such a rapid drop?

    Never had a hypo...

The lowest I've ever been was 3.7 and I was only just starting to feel a bit shaky/hungry... What can I expect from a full on hypo with bloods around 2-3? P.S. What is the lowest it can get to before you fall unconscious?

    High Bloods???

Purely out of interest, I just did a 2 hours post-dinner blood glucose test (I usually only test 4 times per day). Despite taking 3 units of NovRapid (the most I've been advised to take by my nurse) as well as having a pre-dinner reading of 4.9, I've gone up to 10.2... Is that normal? I seem...

    New Years Eve

Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to test regularly and eat carbs before bed. I've never actually had a hypo so Ill drink a bit less if it means I can reduce my chances even slightly. Thanks again!

    New Years Eve

Thanks for all of the fast replies! I think I may have exaggerated how drunk I planned to get. Even so, I will definitely be more careful tomorrow... While drinking is great I'd rather be safe and healthy! Sober fun is the best fun, right?

    New Years Eve

Tomorrow is my first nye as a type 1 so what's the deal with drinking? I had planned on drinking quite a bit but since my diagnosis I'm not so sure... What should I do?

    Newly Diagnosed - Injection Questions

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm still getting used to all this but I'm kind of wishing my remaining insulin would just die so that I can settle down on some sort of routine!

    Newly Diagnosed - Injection Questions

Hi, This is my first time posting on here as I was only diagnosed as type 1 the week before Christmas... I've found that when injecting in my thigh (outer and upper as advised) every few times it will be very painful with blood drawn - sort of like I've hit something I shouldn't have hit - is...
