Back to testing with strange results....

The good news is that a few days after stopping the steroids, BG is back to normal. Solid 5s in the morning, 6s before meals and 6s through mid 7s 2 hours after. Happy!

Back to testing with strange results....

Well, I just read up on this and it seems exactly what my problem might be. I have been on Prednisolone for the last 10 days with 4 more to go, and it appears that if you take a morning dose (which i have been doing), then BS levels will rise throughout the day and then taper off in the evening...

Back to testing with strange results....

Thanks. I'll keep monitoring over the next few weeks and see if it settles down. I have also been on steroids for the last 10 days for something completely unrelated, so I wonder if that could have an impact as well.

Back to testing with strange results....

Hi All, I haven't been on here in a few years. As background I was diagnosed T2 in 2010 with an HbA1C of 13.8. I took this seriously and by low carb diet and exercise got it down to mid 5's for a very stable period from 2011 through 2014. Last year, my doctor gave me the "you are no longer a...

    Newly Diagnosed type 2

Just to cheer you up, you can pretty much inhale all the turkey you like on Christmas day. It's mainly protein and won't hit your blood sugar much at all. As much turkey and vegetables as you like! Smoked salmon, sausages wrapped in bacon, cheese, fruit - it's all fine for you on a low carb...

Just been diagnosed with Type 2

First of all, welcome to the forum! One thing that may surprise you is that pretty soon after switching to a "good" diet and starting exercise is that you might well find that you have MORE energy! There is lots of very good advice on this forum for controlling type 2 diabetes with a low carb...

    Carb after Exercising?

I do a lot of cycling these days and have been reading up quite a lot on how to fuel for exercise. Not sure how much of this is accurate, but it's the way I am leaning right now: I do my daily morning exercise (45 mins to 1 hour on an indoor training bike) on an empty stomach - and normally...

    Red Wine

Well....we're all different but.... I drink a bottle of red wine most nights. I find it does nothing to my BG levels at all. If anything, it lowers them. They are also low in the mornings too. Just got an HbA1c result today and it was 5.4 (34 mmol/mol), so that's OK. On the other hand, this is...

    Getting into Shape

Great work Carl! Nicely done. Isn't it a great feeling to get from being an overweight, unfit slob back into proper fitness? I'm in the same boat as you....diagnosed April last year and made a severe effort to lose weight. I dropped from 100Kg to 75kg - almost 4 stone and have recently reached...

    Low Carb Recipes

Re: 99% Coco/Cocao Better late than never....but you could try this rather lovely chocolate mousse recipe: Chocolate Mousse serves 4 to 6 3 1/2 oz unsweetened chocolate (at least 70% chocolate liquor or cocoa) 3 large egg yolks 2 - 3 tbsp Splenda 5 large egg whites 3/4 cup 35 % cream Break...

Low carb - my first two weeks

Hi Bob, Just as a bit of encouragement, I was diagnosed as T2 in April last year with an A1c of 13.2. I started low carbing immediately - initially BG testing before and after every meal to get a baseline understanding of how I reacted to various foods. My last A1c was 5.2! Nowadays, I test...

    Annual Review - great results!

Congratulations on your excellent results! As posted above, you should be able to get them to give you the full print out - even without seeing the diabetic nurse. A week after my blood tests, I just ask at the health centre reception and they just print them off and give them to me. You might...

    Airline Diabetic catering

I do a lot of long haul flying too - and I have exactly the same problem. The "diabetic" meal is often carb based, and tends to be cooked worse than the regular meals! If I am flying club, then it's normally OK as there's always enough variety to pick and choose from, but if I am sitting in the...

The soles of my feet hurt

I used to suffer from horrible pain in my feet - especially in the middle of the night or when I got up in the morning Very stiff and sore on the soles. My doctor said it was most likely plantar fascitis. I bought a pair of crocs on holiday last summer and the problem disappeared almost...

Help with Starting a Testing Regime....

Here's my latest update....I just got my test results in today: HbA1c is now 5.2! Total cholesterol is now 3.6 HDL is up to 1.4, and LDL is 1.58 (LDL is up slightly for some reason, but still well less than the target of <2. I'll have to keep an eye on that...) All the numbers...

    Finding it hard

Sorry Fella to hear the bad news....but now you are responsible for your own life. STOP SMOKING NOW. Yes, it's hard, but even if it's the hardest thing you ever do it will be the most valuable thing you ever do. If you don't, it WILL kill you. Simple as that. Also - start on a low carb...

    Cycling, T2 and Carbohydrates

I am Type 2 and successfully control it with exercise and low carb diet. HbA1c was 5.4 three months ago, and my next set of results are due next week. Hopefully it will be the same or lower. Since being diagnosed back in April this year, I have been enjoying swimming and cycling and in fact...
