Went for my annual review today (had bloods taken in December and before I started Glicazide).

Everything was great, even better than I expected.

HbA1C 6.0% was 7.4% last year (hopefully next time will be lower)
Cholesterol 3.2 (didn't see exactly what other figures were but were both 1.something) was 5.2 last year
Blood pressure 130/75
No problems with kidneys
Foot tests fine
Weight loss 1 stone over year - BMI now 29

My doctor was really pleased, think the majority of his T2 diabetic patients are cake and sweet eating old people who just go on more and more medication, I'm 49 and want to be as healthy as I can. I've learnt so much from this forum.

Congratulations Denise
If you want to know all your numbers, simply ask for a complete print out. You have a right to that information.

I'm working on getting a printout, but to be shown values on screen is an improvement from when I was first diagnosed. My GP is not used to people wanting to be proactive.

Congratulations on your excellent results!

As posted above, you should be able to get them to give you the full print out - even without seeing the diabetic nurse. A week after my blood tests, I just ask at the health centre reception and they just print them off and give them to me.

You might also consider asking your GP for more frequent tests - as you are obviously doing a good job of self management of your diabetes, he/she should be amenable to this as it allows you keep on track better. I asked mine and he said "sure, every two or three months will be fine, just do whatever suits you..."

I don't quite understand why I only get an annual review, although I have been a regular visitor to the surgery with chronic fatigue which turns out to be vitamin D deficiency.

My GP practice is quite small and I wouldn't consider the practice nurse a diabetes specialist, I seem to know more than she does about diabetes and she does everything from the asthma clinic to baby injections.

I will get braver and ask for a printout in the future, but thankfully I can read photographically and take in more of the screen than most people do, but it does rely on me remembering what it says.

I asked when I could have another HbA1c and my GP said I could have one done in three months, so that's an improvement too.

Yes, desertbear42, I am a Type 2, been diagnosed just over 3 years but suspect I've had it about 6 years.

Congratulations Denise, excellent news, I just had my latest A1c results back too and am happy with mine as well :D
