    Skills for life course

Gappy, I was thinking that myself and I will probably do it. I just wondered if anyone else had any feedback from them to give me a heads up. Bowell, thanks for link but I don't think he was on about me learning to read or write!! I'm fairly competent at those already! ;) I think, as...

    Skills for life course

Hi all, Had a clinic appointment this morning and my consultant mentioned trying to get me on a "skills for life" course. Just wondering if anyone else has done one. What are they like? Is it worth doing? Thanks!

    Coping with Baked Beans??

Hi :) I'm sure that most of you don't eat baked beans, but for those of you that do (even on the odd occasion) how do you deal with them insulin-wise? I find that beans rise my sugars, but not for an hour or so. If I give my self extra insulin to accomodate the rise then I tend to hypo before...

help please as i havent a clue lol

Hi totsy, Again, like Margi, I can't really help directly but thought I'd share an experience of my own. About 5 or 6 years ago I switched my contraceptive pill - can't remember what I swapped to, but it started causing me awful troubles about 2 months after I started on it. It was a combined...

How often do you change your needles/lancets?

Argh, I had that too!!! One nurse was lovely - she was diabetic too, and let me do her injections a couple of times so I'd know how it felt to pierce skin. I was terrified to look at the needle going in though (still am, that's parly why I go through my clothes, so I don't see it! ) -...

How often do you change your needles/lancets?

I was a bit suprised too, I was expecting a telling off!! I think that my DSN, while "whip-cracking" with the newbies, is a little bit more relaxed with her patients that have been doing it for years. It would be hard to break a 20+ year habit just like that, so as far as she is...

How often do you change your needles/lancets?

Er... actually, my DSN has!! She asked me once how often I changed my needles - only when I change the cartridge says me, slightly ashamed. Her response was that ideally I should change it every time, but she was aware that would be a hard habit to get into, so if I could aim to change...

That Old Chestnut - DP vs Somogyi Effect

Hi, Not sure if this is helpful or not, but in my own experience if I have had a night hypo and not woken up (which is rare - I nearly always wake up & devour the contents of the kitchen in my sleepy state!) I tend to get the following: Raging headache, something akin to a hangover-type...

Just getting sick of it now....

Hi Ollie, I know exactly how you feel - I went through the same thing from when I was about 16 to, er... about 26  (I'm nearly 29 now!) I just wanted to say that no matter how sucky it feels, try your best not to let it get on top of you. I didn't. I tried my best to ignore the diabetes...

What do you say, and what do they mean?

No one's ever said that to me... I guess I must "look like a diabetic"

    Cauliflower rice query!

Hi all, Thanks for all the advice! :D Love the idea of the flavoured oil, that's something I'll definitely be trying! In the end I was a little short of time, so I just steamed the cauli florets over OH's rice, and mashed it roughly once it was cooked. Was quite nice, but a little bland. I...

    Cauliflower rice query!

Hi Does anyone know how best to make cauliflower "rice" if one does not possess a microwave?! I'm making chilli for dinner tonight I'd really like to try this - I'm fed up of having my chilli with shredded cabbage or salad! Standard advice says grate the cauli, then nuke. Perhaps if...

    Not losing weight, any help?

People are so different - I can't leave the house without eating breakfast! I can't really eat breakfast at work either - mornings are insanely busy and we're not allowed to eat at our desks for health & safety reasons. (Trust me, in my job you wouldn't want to anyway!)

    Not losing weight, any help?

Thanks for all your replies, Patch that's a very comprehensive answer!! :D I will try and really cut back hard on the carbs for a week or so, see what that does for me. I have been eating a lot of tomatoes in things, fresh & tinned, raw & cooked, so I will give them a rest for a while...

    Not losing weight, any help?

That's what I'm hoping Daisy, which is partly why I'm going to join the gym. The only other difference I can think of from last time is that it was summer, and we were going out for an hour or two cycling one or two days a week. But I can't see that making the difference between 1-2lbs per week...

    Not losing weight, any help?

Hi all, I started a low-carb diet last summer and did really well - lost around a stone in weight, and got my control pretty good. Then we went to a festival at the end of the summer, then it was my birthday, then christmas... it all fell apart reallly, I pretty much went back to normal eating...

    Meal out tonight, please help!!

Hi all Thanks for all the great advice yesterday :) As it turns out we went to a Siganpore-type restaurant instead of the Chinese, which really restricted my menu options as I'm not fond of satay, green curries and the like. So, I had a little nibble of the crispy duck that was shared between...
