    Liraglutide/Victoza

I've been on Victoza for 4 weeks now and it certainly works - my fasting blood sugars down from 11.5 to 6.2 :) There is a price to pay however - very bad reaction with nausea/diarrhoea for just over 3 weeks - eased now, but I have a constant mild tummy ache :( This no doubt helps with weight...

Defatizing with Slimfast Gunk by Bob

I started Slimfast in July - saw Diabetic Nurse Thursday - lost 13lbs, yippee!! Banana my fave, agree caramel is sickly-sweet!

Will YOU ask your Dr for the 600 cal diet

The "saving grace" of Slimfast is that I only have to replace two meals, not three as with Lighterlife... this means I can still enjoy food at lunchtime - eg yesterday strawberries and cream :) and in theory no food is banned (cept of course the high-sugar/high carb stuff that makes my blood...

Will YOU ask your Dr for the 600 cal diet

My GP, who claims that if I lose weight I will cure my Diabetes, asked me to consider a Very Low Calorie diet just before this story broke - I refused simply because I know my will power isn't strong enough! However, I have started the Slimfast routine, replacing breakfast and dinner with a...

Being told you cant Inject at work!!

Very sensible, and something I've know happen - they agreed that the person injecting would say "I'm going to be injecting in a few minutes" and the colleague who was genuinely upset by needles would simply get up and walk away - managers knew and were fine with it, no-one got het up, because...

    Good point, thank you!

    A bucket list.

I'm with you on the finances and funeral plans, but housework I will happily leave to my heirs ;)

Statins. What happens if I don't take them?

I too have decided to give them a try, as my cholesterol, always below 4 until diagnosed with Diabetes, is now, a year after diagnosis, 6.5 :( As I am keeping my blood sugar levels at around 7.5/7.7, by diet alone, and as my bp is around 120/70, I decided to take the statins and hopefully bring...

How did you come to be diagnosed?

I kept "nodding off" in front of my computer at work - I'd "blank out" for a couple of seconds and have to redo whatever I was doing - management sent me to Occupational Health who arranged for a screen colour test, thinking the background colour of the PC was affecting me - they also sent me...

    Do Diabetics bruise more easily?

Ok, thanks :) Next time I shall drink lots of water and have a tube of arnica cream ready!

Does the menopause affect blood sugar levels?

Menopause, Diabetes, retirement - life's just a whole bundle of laughs, innit?

    Do Diabetics bruise more easily?

PS - is it ok to drink lots of water before a fasting blood test?

    Do Diabetics bruise more easily?

Many thanks for your replies :) I'm beginning to think it's mainly down to the skill (or lack of it!) of the person taking the blood... so I needn't worry about any serious underlying cause... and it doesn't hurt, just a mild numbness for a few days... but I'll try the tip about arnica cream...

    Do Diabetics bruise more easily?

Looks line mine, Sue - thanks! Needle site at one edge, bruise spreads away from it... doesn't actually hurt, just intrigues me! Wonder how he knew??

    Do Diabetics bruise more easily?

I went for my 3-monthly check-up with the Nurse yesterday, not looking forward to it as the last time she took blood I was sitting in a local cafe about 10 minutes later and noticed blood running down my arm! My mother (a retired nurse) reckons it's because the nurse didn't strap down the bit...

    "It's the thought that counts"...

In this case, buying a different, non-chocolate gift for staff such as myself and your Mum would not be favouritism, it would be a manager showing sensitivity! Sometimes one has to treat people differently in order to treat them all with respect... :)

    Diabetes itchy skin

PS - I too use the Skin So Soft dry oil body lotion - very soothing!

    Diabetes itchy skin

I've been on anti-histamines every spring-autumn because of this - hardly bothers me in winter, so perhaps the best advice is to move to a really cold country?? On a more practical point, if you colour your hair, either stop or ask your hairdresser to use a technique where the dye doesn't...

    "It's the thought that counts"...

You must all have wills of iron! I knew that if I took the egg I would have scoffed it all in one go, so I wanted to refuse it (and I did so politely!) in order to save myself from high blood sugar levels. Other colleagues have no problem with a polite refusal. And that's my point - should we...

    "It's the thought that counts"...

... or so said a fellow-Diabetic at work, when I ranted about the insensitivity/stupidity of my manager for giving me a chocolate easter egg - and not a mini or cream egg, it was a normal size one, containing 780 calories and 92g of carbs! But what kind of thought could have been in her head...
