    Still on Track

I haven't posted in a while and just been lurking for recipes, but I had to post this as inspiration for others. Just had my one year blood work results after diagnosis and I'm happy to say I'm still on track. My Doctor took me off of Metformin 3 months ago when my A1C was 5.5. After this...

OMG OMG OMG [emoji44] HBA1C SHOCK - CURED?

First off congratulations. It took me six months to get my hba1c down to 5.5. I was teken off metformin which made me happy. Since then life events and a few bad choices I'm sure are putting that number back up. I will find out for sure at the begining of February. Basically what I'm saying...

    Question about Metformin

I was on one metformin 500mg a day. After 9 months of a low carb diet and some exercise I was taken off metformin. I have a blood test coming up at the beginning of Feb but from what my meter tells me my a1c should only be up a few points from the 5.3 it was in October. Now my mother in law...

    Tapioca pudding

Hello. My wife was planning of making home made tapioca pudding for christmas dinner desert. It has 3.5% milk and whipping cream for the liquids. Also using splenda brown sugar to sweeten. Does anyone know what the GI is of the tapioca its self? I will probably have some no matter what but don't...

    Cholesterol going up

Hello again everyone. In my previous threat I stated I'm off metformin which is really good. Bad news is my cholesterol is up slightly. From a 5.2 to a 5.8 total (LDL HDL and TRI). I've got an appointment with the dietitian in a few weeks and I know she is going to want me to cut out eggs (I...

    Coming off metformin

Got my third a1c back and I'm still in the mid 5's (5.5, 5.7, 5.6) so my doctor said to stop taking the metformin and we'll see what happens in three months. So I've been off of it now for a couple of days and I've got the shakes and weak knees just like a low blood glucose would be. I've...

Controling sugars no help to type 2

Just saw this on the CBC website. http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/study-type-2-diabetes-questions-medical-dogma-no-evidence-1.3762658 It sounds like he doesn't have all the information or he's cherry picking. But he does have a point that we may not be exploring all avenues. This doctor...

Probably will be prescribed cholesterol meds

Hello all. I've been lurking for the past little while but I need to ask a question. I just had my 6 month blood test and it was for A1C and lipids. I'm pretty sure my A1C will be fairly good at least under 7. But I'm a little concerned about my lipids. I suspect they will be higher then...

Breakfast Ideas Please Similar To Cereal

If you must have cereal then I would suggest All Bran or maybe some Cheerios. All Bran can be very filling but it is not sweet in any sense and can be a bit chewy. Cheerios are okay but I can't have any more then a 1/2 cup or I get a spike. I only ever had B&E on weekends before diagnosis...

    Metformin

Just to confirm that you should take it with food. Forgot my dose at supper last night so took it about 6 hours later. Well in the middle of the night i had a bad case of the runs. Other then that it took about 3 weeks to get my system used to it. Now if there was a wonder drug that let me...

Low Carb Roast Beef Sandwich (4g)

The meter I use now is call Dario. Not sure how new it is but it uses my cell phones head phone jack. You plug it in to the head phone jack, put in a test strip and poke. The whole package is small and fits in my pocket so I never "forget" it at home. I didn't like carrying my big case with...

    **** restaurants

It's been a few weeks and we went out for another birthday lunch just a few days ago. This time I ordered the burger and fries. I nixed the bun and scraped off most of the sauces on the burger. I also had gravy on the fries. Most packaged gravy restaurants don't use flour as a thickener but...

    Media rant! Grr!

I hope you never have to deal with insulin resistance. We get the same thing over here in Canada also. All the news is about Type 2 and seems all the research is also on type 2. A friend of my son is Type 1 and has been dealing with it since he was a year old. I can feel for all type 1's...

    3 month blood reading

My doctor said I was diabetic at 7.5 with my first hba1c I have ever had. Fasting was also in the high 8's. But I'm also in Canada so might have different standards. But with some diet and exercise I was able to get that down to a 5.5 in only three months. It wasn't even that much exercise...

    Eating Out

I tell them i avoid rice, potato, pasta and bread and all they think is its the gluten. I've given up explaining the difference between the two. Doesn't stop them from making cake and goodies that are gluten free but not low carb. And they use raw sugar or honey and say its okay because its...

    Another topic on sugar

Just finished listening to a CBC radio 2 part discussion on fat and suagr. Over all I thought it was very good. They did give both sides but I think they favoured the fats side and really the whole foods side. Check it out at http://www.cbc.ca/radio/ideas/fat-and-sugar-part-1-1.3635209 Sent...

    Eating Out

It's not just wait staff. Most of the people I work with think Type 2 is equivalent to being celiac.

    Sugar Coated

That's what I use. Frozen strawberries and raspberries. About 70g of each with some water and 13g of flax seed put in a blender for a minute. Drink while having a nice mushroom, bacon & cheese omelette. Great now I'm hungry again :)

    Sugar Coated

I agree with you there bulkbiker. I stick with berries as they are much easier of the sugars. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Diabetes.co.uk Forum mobile app
