    Glucokinase/Symptoms

Thank you for the clarification regarding blood sugar levels, so it would suggest that mine are very slightly elevated? I did have a meter and found that things like pasta and chips would send my blood sugars high, so I'm trying to avoid them but have found it difficult thus far! Especially...

    Glucokinase/Symptoms

Hi everyone, I've finally seen a consultant regarding my diagnosis of diabetes today but have left with more questions unanswered than answered really. Feeling really fed up and down if I'm being honest, the consultant suggested that I had glucokinase Mody but has ordered the genetic test to...

Did you have symptoms of diabetes

I was constantly thirsty and needing to wee all the time. I was also throwing up nearly every day, and I started to get the constant fatigue but I didn't think much of that. It was the thirst and vomitting that made me go to the doctors in the end.

    Dealing with Symptoms

I have started to try a low carb diet but struggling at uni at the moment which is hindering it, but I've certainly reduced my carbs a lot and do aim to reduce further. Thank you.

    Dealing with Symptoms

I've been drinking over 3 litres a day generally, mostly water but occasionally Diet Coke. I am still waiting to see the specialist, the appointment is in 8 weeks. I spoke to my doctor and had another blood test which showed my hba1c has remained the same since February so they said they can't...

    Dealing with Symptoms

Hi everyone, I was just wondering how everyone copes with diabetes symptoms? Mostly the excess thirst and frequent urination, I know this is due to high blood sugar so is it simply a case of grin and bear it until my sugar levels are lowered or can I do something about it? It's beginning to...

First GTT - will I feel sick?

When I had it done I felt sick but I also don't like needles and often feel sick after having blood taken. I didn't have lucozade but the drink wasn't too bad, just a very sweet lemon flavoured drink. It's not too bad and there will be staff that can look after you if you do feel unwell :) Hope...

BG on the rise - please help

I usually only snack when I'm hungry but must admit to snacking more when I'm feeling stressed too (which at the moment is all the time!), but have been trying to snack on cheese more than the unhealthy, carby foods I used to. Only just starting to reduce my carbs in the past week or so.

BG on the rise - please help

Thank you, that's very interesting. Definitely helpful :) I've always been a snacker, something I need to learn to control really!

BG on the rise - please help

Out of curiosity, do you know why that is? Mine tends to be lowest in the morning but I think it's probably because I quite often have a snack in the afternoon, and I haven't got my blood sugar levels under control yet.

    Underweight and LCHF?

Thank you @azure, I think I will try and ring the diabetes centre tomorrow and see about bringing the appointment forward again. I'm going to look into buying a new meter as I'm sure the one I've got isn't working properly, so I will definitely look in the high street. Thank you again :)

    Underweight and LCHF?

I'd rather not buy ex-prescription strips but I'll keep that in mind, thank you. @azure My mother has a genetic form of type 2 diabetes but had never heard of Mody, my GP thinks it's Mody because of my mother, my weight and my age (23, 22 when first being investigated). I rang the diabetes...

    Underweight and LCHF?

@catapillar My blood sugar was usually between 8 and 11, but I'm not sure the meter always worked correctly as often it would say 3.6 or low, so I would try again and it would give a completely different number so I am unsure on specific numbers. I will look into buying a ketostix, I did go back...

    Underweight and LCHF?

@catapillar I'm based in the UK and not currently on medication, my GP surgery have told me to wait to see the specialist (not sure if they knew it would be such a long wait). When I did have test strips I noticed that my blood sugars went up after eating pasta, so I would assume that carbs...

    Underweight and LCHF?

Thank you for the replies. I have always been slim, maintaining a similar weight but in the past 2 weeks I have lost 3kg, so I wouldn't say severe weight loss but enough for me to notice. I was testing my blood sugars (self funded, and off my own back because I wanted to understand what my...

    Underweight and LCHF?

Hi, I've recently been diagnosed with diabetes (awaiting confirmation of Mody with a specialist appointment at the end of June), my Hba1c on diagnosis was 48 then the following month it was 49. I've been given very little guidance from the diabetes nurse and my doctor and was basically told that...
