    Giving up coffee???

Actually coffee does raise my bs. Although I adore the stuff, was just so relieved when I was saw the bs levels go down, I almost didn't mind having the decaf stuff.

    Control with diet

I've been diagnosed with t2dm for almost 10 years. Most of the time I have controlled it as non diabetic with a low carb diet. The last 3 years I have used 2x500mg Metformin. It seems a bit more difficult to control with the diet alone. Has anyone else experienced that? It doesn't help that I...

    Binge eating at Christmas

A bit horrified at myself. Usually I control my type 2 diabetes with low carb eating and 1000 mg Metformin a day - have done so since diagnosis 9 years ago, am 67 now. Just got really stressed after too many Christmas parties sticking to low carb and ended up in the last 4 days: - having a...

    A rare mistake

Just really annoyed with myself. On 2 Metformin a day, diagnosed 8 years ago, could probably go down to 1 or none. Very strict low carb diet, libre estimates hba1c at 39 for last 8 months. Yesterday went out for lunch and just suddenly felt so fed up with it all and had a cheeseburger with a bun...

    Diet coke

I'm beginning to think this elevates my blood sugar - not in a sharp way, just over time

    Meter question

I find ordinary bread including wholemeal incompatible with a low carb lifestyle - obviously tiny quantities might be manageable, just not whole slices at a time. It all depends on how many grams of carbs one person can tolerate.

    What next Insulin?

Maybe try lowering the carbs a bit to see what effect it has? I wear the Abbott freestyle libre intermittently to see which foods affect me most.

    Struggling with type2

I wore the Abbott freestyle libre monitor for some time after diagnosis to see how particular foods were affecting me. I make or buy low carb versions of my old foods so I don't feel deprived, for example I make or buy low carb bread and cakes. Usually replace wheat flour with almond flour in...

    Starting again…. again

Just wanted to say that pulses are generally pretty high in carbohydrate. There are several exceptions (black soybeans and lupini beans) but they can be difficult to source. I wore the Freestyle libre pretty constantly for the first year of diagnosis and also logged carbohydrate on an app so I...

Visiting relatives. Very low carb vegetarian ideas to suggest (as suitable for me a keto near carnivore)

Bring some nuts, too, with the cheeseboard and maybe olives and a few low carb crudités. Guacamole too. Baked aubergine dip (Baba ganoush). 90% chocolate or dipped strawberries with the same dark chocolate.
