Type 2 and chronic fatigue syndrome

I have CFS/M.E. as well. In fact, the diabetes was picked up when they did the barrage of tests to exclude everything else - there is no test for CFS, it's diagnosed by eliminating everything else it could be. I was also severely vitamin D deficient, but the huge supplements they gave me made no...

Better HbA1c, but now high cholesterol

Thanks Mbaker, I will remember. I'm particularly adverse to taking Statins because my Dad had high cholesterol and they gave them to him 10 years ago when they were still being touted as a wonder drug. At the time he had mild vascular dementia, but his deterioration whilst he was on them was...

Better HbA1c, but now high cholesterol

Many thanks everyone, you've told me a load I didn't know. I'll do as suggested and ask for a full printout - they didn't give me the breakdown of LDL, HDL, and triglycerides. I can't remember if I had anything to eat before the blood test - damned M.E. causes memory problems and one day is much...

Better HbA1c, but now high cholesterol

Hi all, Just returned from an appointment with the diabetic nurse, who was delighted my HbA1c had come down from 50 to 46. However, she said my cholesterol was 6.1, and they like Diabetics to be anout 4. She mentioned Statins, which I seriously don't want. So, has anyone else run into this...

Treating a blocked nose due to a cold

I often suffer from a blocked nose due to recurring sinusitis. I usually go to bed with a olbas oil sprinkled onto a hanky, tucked into the neck of pyjamas. The vapour usually keeps my breathing clear until morning. Hope your cold improves soon.

    It didnt sink in

Hi Anfalas and welcome. I'm not surprised you are finding it difficult to cope with diagnosis - you have had an awful lot to deal with. I sympathise with the exercise problem; I have ME and was only diagnosed with diabetes because they were doing endless tests trying to rule out everything else...

Confused after 1st Diabetic Nurse appointment

Thank you all, I will stick with LCHF and take the NHS advice with a large pinch of salt. From the sound of some of your experiences, I guess I should consider myself lucky that I wasn't told I could eat Christmas cake, Christmas pudding and mince pies! I appreciate the time you have taken to...

Confused after 1st Diabetic Nurse appointment

Hi all, I've been prediabetic for a year, and thanks to this forum, switched to LCHF soon after diagnosis. However, I also have ME, which means I can't exercise. Part way through the year my GP said I was not diabetic, and didn't need to cut out everything. I stupidly let things like cereal and...

    Back again

Hi all, thank you so much for the advice and support. I will go to the CAB and ask for help. I'll look for pre made cauliflower rice (quick check online shows Tesco stock it) and also try the batch cooking. Many thanks for the link to sugar free strepsils, will follow up. One question - I have...

    Back again

Hi all, I haven't posted for ages, although I've been popping in and out, watching discussions. I've had a hell of a year. Diagnosed pre diabetic a year ago whilst suffering from fatigue. 3 months later I was diagnosed with CFS / ME, and although I tried to adhere to LCHF, it wasn't entirely...

    Low blood sugar

Hi, I'm pre-diabetic, and was slightly derailed from LCHF over Christmas. I've been back to low carbs properly since New Year, but my blood sugar has been all over the place - as high as 10.5, and today, as low as 3.6 (2 hours after eating a bowl of porridge). I am struggling to lose weight as I...

    Hi from NZ

Hi and welcome. I'm a new member too, but only pre-diabetic. I suffer from depression too, and like you confused the fatigue symptoms with a depression downturn. Just wanted to say hang in there, and hope things start looking up really soon. I visited your beautiful country when I was 18 - over...

    New - pre-diabetic

Thank you - so nice to have someone understand that this isn't normal tiredness. I was feeling fed up with waking up in the morning and feeling as if I'd already run the marathon - not that I ever have. Like you I'm also asthmatic - although no excuse for not marathon running, as Paula Radcliffe...

    New - pre-diabetic

Many thanks - the Americanisms won't worry me as I read so much fiction from the US and Canada that it feels like normal English now. Thanks too for the encouragement- worth it's weight in gold.

    New - pre-diabetic

Unbelievable. I think the ones that shocked me most were low fat "healthy" yoghurts, and tinned tomatoes with herbs. Why would anyone in their right mind want to add sugar to tomatoes?? Interestingly the 'basic' ranges don't have added sugar. I'm coming to the conclusion that even if you are...

    New - pre-diabetic

Thanks for the advice, I will try reducing fat too. It made me feel better to hear you've got back to normal BG levels - well done - and also that high BG levels can cause fatigue. My GP categorically said pre-diabetes wouldn't make me feel the way I have been, but having read a bit around the...

    New - pre-diabetic

Thanks for the advice, Freema. I'm avoiding all sugars, including those hidden in low fat foods! What an eye-opener when you first start looking closely at ingredients.

    New - pre-diabetic

Hi, I'm new here. I've been suffering from chronic fatigue, and my GP did a number of tests. Almost everything came back negative except severe vitamin D difficiency and blood sugar right at the top end of the pre diabetic level. I've been given Vitamin D therapy, but not given much advice yet...
