Do you write down your blood test results?

Yes, and the program is a free download, and they sent me the cable free too. Very, very quickly. I just phoned up and asked for one it was with me two days later. I use the program and it is very good indeed. I can download the results to my pc's memory as pdf's if I want, which is a handy...

High blood sugars - low dose of Levemir the culprit??

We all have different ratios for mealtimes; for instance I take 1 unit of humalog per 3g of carb at breakfast, but only 1 unit per 12g at dinner. I agree with Fallenstar that you need to see your DSN for advice on the basal, because if you're OK when you go to bed but high in the mornings...

Being told to exercise to help my type 2

Exercise possibilities that I can think of include: Swimming with flotation aids Recumbent stationary cycle Adapted arm use only stationary exercise machine Rowing machine with adaptive seat for wheelchair users (provides bum cushioning, a fairly high seat back and straps) And you could...

    Constant high (13.7+) BS reading

I take large doses of carbemazepine daily for my epilepsy. I see from the link re milk thistle/adverse reactions that I should not take milk thistle at all. Thank you for posting the link. Carbemazpine places enough strain on the liver without adding in something that will increase its...

    Mini Fridge for insulin

I use one of the £23.99 Argos mini-fridges in my office for the milk. I can promise it keeps the milk cold for ages - easily as long as a full size domestic fridge! I keep a spare Humalog cartridge in there and it's been fine. I can also fit in a couple of tins of diet coke in summer, or a...

    levels post op? and basals?

I don't know about the operation bit but I do know that the insulin you shoot at mealtimes is intended to cover the carbs you eat at that meal. The basal insulin is intended to deal with your body's other needs for insulin, totally separate from the processing of food. The way I know whether my...

MY DIABETIC NURSE LISTENED TO ME FOR ONCE!!

Totally second Jopar on Using Insulin by John Walsh - brilliant book. Also in a slightly more chatty (but equally informative) style - Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner. Those two books have been terrific sources of information for me, and really helpful in my switch-over from mixed...

    Training

I am T1 and my chosen sport is endurance rowing. If I am rowing for more than one hour I start to drip feed carbs (in the form of a drink) at the rate of about 5g per half hour depending on pace - the higher the pace, the more carbs I take. Best way to find out what you need is to measure bg...

    dehydration options???????

I take part in endurance rowing and had the same problem with dehydration and bg levels. Now we mix litres of our own drink for me. We use a ratio of 25% pure OJ, 75% natural spring water (bottled water ....) and a pinch of organic natural sea salt. Gotta be natural sea salt or you don't get...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.0 this morning. And yay, it's Friday. Been a roller-coaster of a week, and will be glad to shut myself away in the Wendycave for the weekend!

Low carb, Low fat breakfast ideas

Yeah well, I don't say I'm in love with the food I eat these days. However, surgery left me unable to eat fatty food or meat (except in laughably small amounts). I am T1 and really would like to keep good control of my blood sugar and avoid possible complications because I just know my body will...

    Another illinformed HCP

Is there any chance you could change GP to a completely different practice? I did that a few years ago and the difference in care given is unbelievable. My old GP googled in front of me once to find out what my symptoms could be! He hated prescribing - I had crippling (literally - couldn't...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.1 this morning. Annoys me because it was 4.9 at bedtime last night. Had a big argument last night - very rare occurrence - and think stress is playing a part in the larger than expected overnight rise.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.3 and whilst not happy I am do know that last night's chocolate might have a little to do with it! Not that I over-indulged but that doesn't help. It was nice though!

    Why We Get Fat

I can certainly vouch for dietary cholesterol having little effect on cholesterol levels. Years ago, I ate everything I shouldn't and had such a low cholesterol level my GP repeated the test twice. These days, following bowel and pancreatic surgery, I can't digest meat or dietary fat and have...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.7 this morning which I'm happy with. My husband has taken to baking home made bread. It's lovely but for some reason it sends my blood much higher than shop bought bread does. I wonder why? Ah well, I don't eat much of it - one slice a day. I guess I can cut that down to half a slice...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

This morning it was 5.6 which puzzles me because at bedtime it was 5.9 and I have never known it go down overnight before. Mind you, I dropped 4 mmols in 40 mins of exercise yesterday which is a lot for me in that short time given that the exercise was a lot less than I usually do. It was the...

How often do you change your needles/lancets?

I change needle every injection, but lancets when the drum of strips runs out. There are 17 in a drum - it's an Accuchek Compact Plus and the finger pricker is less much painful than my previous effort which I didn't like at all.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

This morning's was 5.8 after a mild hypo yesterday evening of 3.6. It was 5.3 by bedtime and I'm glad to see I hadn't overcompensated with carbs!
