    Help with cholesterol please

I sympathise with your dilemma. Often high cholesterol levels can be due to biological factors not just diet. I decided that my decision whether or not to take statins was about relative risk management. The side effects versus serious health risks of cvd /strokes ;which are already high risk...

    Depression/diabetes

I suspect that one condition feeds off the other. Prolonged/s stress causes many various changes in the body's chemistry associated with the fight/flight reaction; it probably contributes to T2 development. The subsequent diagnosis compounds the stress and depression and a downward spiral occurs...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Just had 6 months review reading 38 mmol. Diagnosed 12 months ago at 48; then 1st 6 months 39. No medication but 4 stone weight loss which I believe is the main reason for the low readings.

    Eat more Fruit?

Howeve the nutritional benefits of fruit on overall health are well known and validated by this research. The argument that this should be disregarded for the sake of avoiding resultant spikes in BG levels may be considered over simplistic and risky. Is there an argument that the cost/benefit of...

    Eat more Fruit?

According to today's Daily Mail lead article, research suggests eating fresh fruit daily lowers risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and also lowers risks of developing complications for those who have Type2. The research undertaken by scientists at Oxford University show that sufferers eating...

Statins - good or bad - what does the research say?

I tend to agree with your sentiments on media hype. However as we are already diabetics on this forum that risk is now academic. I'm more concerned at the blood glucose spike effect and wonder how prevalent that effect is? I'm 74 and was prescribed statins without a second thought by my GP.

Statins - good or bad - what does the research say?

'Statins Raise Diabetes Risk.' A front page headline in today's Daily Express with an article on recent research suggests 'pensioners' who take statins increase there risk of developing diabetes by up to 50%' The article mentions the usual side effects but what is concerning increased blood...

    Stress diabetes ???

My understanding of a diabetic diagnosis criteria is having two HbA1c readings at 48 mmol/mol or above. As previous commentators #Chook have said there are advantages in accessing other essential screening services by being on the list. What is the likelihood of a misdiagnosis? And why take the...

    T2 Reversal .. ??

'Reversal' seems to be an imprecise overused term when used in relation to T2 diabetes; From what I've read from the various studies and claims it's more about effective management of BG levels through weight loss and dietary changes than a return to 'normality' vis 'cured.' If I could one day...

    Type 1 Sickness

It may be stress /anxiety related. I've had low mood-anxiety symptoms since being diagnosed t2 nine months ago. I'm not sure the symptoms are physical effects from a low carb diet or psychological from managing it or a combination of both? From what I've read there seems to be a higher risk of...

    Parking fine...treating hypo!!!

These private parking companies have sprung up all over the place;usually on motorway service stations. They have no statutory enforcement powers like police and councils and rely on scare tactics and mimicking fixed penalty notices. The only way they could recover a payment would be through...

    Concerned about weight loss...

That's a pretty good endorsement for LCHF and it seems like a win win result. It's high time the nutritionists and db 'experts' caught up with these findings and offered appropriate advice to patients.

    Concerned about weight loss...

Doesn't the LCHF diet have the potential to raise cholesterol levels with the increased consumption of fats? Whilst on the one hand lowering BG levels is important equally if not more important is avoiding cvd risks. Also doesn't high levels of meat consumption put a strain on the liver function?

Hba1c almost halved in 2 months

#bluetit 1802 That could be the case just need evidence to confirm it. If removing visceral fat restores insulin production to normal that would be a major breakthrough towards a 'cure' ?

Hba1c almost halved in 2 months

#Inchindown Inspirational results! There seems to be some relationship bet weight loss and lower bg nos. The Newcastle research seemed to show the same. The unanswered question is Why? given that people with healthy weights develop T2!

Finally found a formula to lower my BG.

    Tiredness

There's a strong link between Type2 and depression; whether this is physiological or psychological is unknown but probably both. Speaking from personal experience I've suffered from both and tiredness is I believe related to the depression. Anti depressants can help as does counselling.
