Eating Low Carb out and about

We were recently at a restaurant with curry on the menu so I requested steamed veggies instead of rice. It was delicious. In contrast, was visiting a friend in hospital recently and called in to the hospital cafeteria. Not one thing on the menu I would eat. I ended up going to the hospital...

How high does your BG need to be to cause damage?

I ate some herb bread the other night before bed after a few glasses of red wine. I think this was the first time I've had white bread since diagnosed in December just gone. I didn't test my BG before bed, but in the morning it was 7.9, the highest I've had yet. It got me thinking, at what level...

    Cranky and irritable

I eat almonds every day but I use skim milk in my coffees, perhaps I should try full cream milk. I have avocado about every second day. Would love to add cheese to my diet. I am just so afraid the fats will make me put weight on when finally I'm having some success losing weight. Now that I...

    Cranky and irritable

Does anyone else get cranky and irritable when losing weight? Generally I seem to have adapted pretty well to my new diet / lifestyle however some times I get so cranky I want to explode. I'm very conscious of it as I don't want to hurt anyone and I know how hurtful words spoken in anger can be...

Holiday to Cambodia - Type 2 Diet Controlled

That is an awesome effort losing all that weight while on holidays. I love my food too much to only have one meal a day though. I think I would definitely enjoy the soup and could just ask them to leave the noodles out. Love mangos but by the sound of it they might not be a good...

Holiday to Cambodia - Type 2 Diet Controlled

That's great to know about the dragon fruit being on par with berries as I have berries in my smoothie every morning and I do love dragon fruit. The Kampot Chicken dish sounds delicious so will definitely look out for it.

Holiday to Cambodia - Type 2 Diet Controlled

That would have been really tough on the cruise, I can imagine how easily things could get lost in translation and just with a lack of understanding about diabetes. I definitely plan to carry snacks. I know we will eat at a lot of different types of places as we love trying different food...

Holiday to Cambodia - Type 2 Diet Controlled

Thanks Goonergal. Must say I'm very excited. I think I'll take some small protein bars too for those times when we're out and about to keep me going. I know if I get to the point where I'm starving, I'll just eat anything. :shy:

Holiday to Cambodia - Type 2 Diet Controlled

At the end of May we are heading to Cambodia for almost a month on our first holiday since diagnosis. In the past our holidays have always had a massive focus on food and we tend to drink alcohol every day. I've been researching and a lot of dishes are rice or noodle based. There's also a lot...

    T2 and lost the plot!!!

PS. Don't be too hard on yourself when you get down about what you have to do. I'm sure we all do at various times. It does suck that we have to worry about it all the time and we can't just eat / drink whatever we like. Sometimes you just want to cry but at the end of the day, it is what it is...

    T2 and lost the plot!!!

I know you say you don't have time to read labels, prepare foods etc, however isn't it worth spending the time to do these things for a few months to set yourself up with the knowledge of what you can eat and how it effects you, along with creating healthy habits, then once you have the...

Type 2 To eat high fat or not ... that is the question

I must admit I struggle with the thought of having butter and cream, etc. Would your diet be as satisfying if you replaced them with other types of fats such as avocado, nuts, olive oil etc? That should make a difference to your cholesterol numbers and you could hopefully avoid the statins.
