Thank you for your help and support. I'm not sure the weightloss has had much impact on my sleep apnea. I fell asleep the other night without my mask and woke up gasping for air and pulse racing! This week I'm struggling with hunger big time - the battle continues! Ian

I thought I'd use my first thread to update where I am after my diagnosis of having diabetes last October. I've managed to lose 16 kgs by cutting down on carbohydrate and have upped my exercise to swimming for 30 - 35 minutes, 4 or 5 times a week. This has had a good effect on my Hba1C which...

Daily Express Cure Diabetes on 500 cals a day WHAT!!!?

I think I'll reserve judgement on this until I seen the paper which was presented to the conference. A google search indicates that it's Hammer S, Jonker J, Snel M, et al. Sustained improvements in left ventricular diastolic function induced by weight loss are associated with a decrease in...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn Mmmm not sure what's happening. Cutting back and dieting meant my fasting levels were acceptable a few weeks ago but they are gradually creeping up again. This morning it was 8.0. Perhaps coincidentally last night in bed I had...

First review next week - what to expect?

I had both injections, one in each arm about 2 weeks ago. It hurt a little at the time as the injection sites were in the muscly bit of the shoulders. I had no reaction to either jab. The areas near injections sites were only a little sore for a couple of days but that wore off. Ian

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn 5.00 at 0800 this morning. I lazed around dozing in bed for a couple of hours and it had risen to 6.2  I wonder if I had got up and had breakfast whether it might not have risen so much. Ian

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn Thank you Viv. I'm hoping it is my cold. I was a little disappointed having, at least I thought so, worked hard at getting them down the low carb way. Still, its early days and I just need to keep chipping away at my weight and...

    Losing my confidence

A big heartfelt thank you to you all for your reponses. It was my first major wobble, but I expect will be one of many. There is a lot for me to take onboard. Taking control seems to be something important and, to some extent, I have already done. - but its early days. I suppose I have...

    Losing my confidence

Posted here because I am a relative newbie - diagnosis + 3 weeks I thought I was getting better after the initial diagnosis which knocked me for six. However, the more I find out about diabetes the worse I feel! I realised that the risk of CHD and various cardiovascular problems were much...

Weightloss - too much too quickly?

Thanks for your responses and encouragement. I had a call from a doctor to say my liver enzymes were up so I will perhaps slow down my weightloss (though its doing that anyway) as I read rapid weight loss can increase problems with fatty liver. It's sod's law that while trying to deal with...

Weightloss - too much too quickly?

Hi! I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago (have altready posted in 'newly diagnosed'). I'm still getting my head around it and all the information (much of it contradicting) which seems to float around about diabetes. I was told on diagnosis that by losing weight and getting fitter would put off...

Many thanks mish1953 and Gappy for your encouragement. I'm anxious my efforts don't fizzle out! And no, I'm not expecting to lose 12 lbs next week....unfortunately. I'm aiming eventually to get somewhere near the 15st mark - I can't remember when I last saw that on my scales...

On reflection could it be that anyone can get their levels to those if they cut back drastically for a week. Would be grateful for any comments so I don't end up deceiving myself.

@gappy thank you I started eating more sensibly towards the end of the week - 3 meals a day. Mainly protein and salads and a little carb. In all I lost 12 lbs - so the worry helped kick start the diet! On reflection my calorie intake probably did nt much exceed the first week of the...
