What's the ideal cholesterol level for type 2?

Sorry I seem to have got my ratings slightly wrong. They are: Triglycerides 0.8 HDL 1.3 LDL 3.6 My serum cholesterol is 5.3 And my serum cholesterol/HDL ratio is 4.1 Thanks for the reply. Where did you get those figures from? The ones quoted on this site are as follows: Total cholesterol...

What's the ideal cholesterol level for type 2?

Hello everyone, I'm a type 2, diagnosed in May 2012. I've reduced my blood sugar levels and initially got my cholesterol down to between the recommended level of 1-5 mmol/L, but my last blood test was just above that 5 - 5.3. What is the ideal cholesterol level for a type 2? What's your...

Help! I don't want to medicate.

I think you've done really well. I changed my diet but didn't go lo carb and I managed to lose weight and get my BG levels down to normal. I really found that dropping bread was the biggest thing. If it's of any help, here's what I eat: 80g in weight of Shreddies, plus 250g of milk Small orange...

Help! I don't want to medicate.

I actually think there's a really easy answer to your question. Just drop the bread at lunchtime. Have a big salad instead - it'll fill you up as well as a sandwich, and will reduce your carbs. For lunch, I have three veggie sausages - I'm a vegetarian - a boiled egg, a big pile of lettuce...

    Safe cholesterol level?

From the diabetes.co.uk link: "Furthermore, total recommended cholesterol levels should be under 5 mmol/L for people with type 2 diabetes." So that's a recommendation for diabetics.

    Safe cholesterol level?

I'm not shooting the messenger, I hope it doesn't come across like that. I think it's a perfectly reasonable question to ask - why does one site say 4 and another site say 5? The one that says 5 is for diabetics.

    Safe cholesterol level?

Well that's annoying... So one website says under 5, another website says under 4. I wonder why there's a discrepancy?

    Safe cholesterol level?

I did a fasting test, so I'll ask for the full breakdown. Where did you get the figure of under 4 for cholesterol from? I was told it should be under 5, which it also states here: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/features/diab ... terol.html

    Safe cholesterol level?

Just got the results of my third hba1c and cholesterol tests. My hba1c is still dropping, which I'm pleased with, but my cholesterol has gone up a little, from 4.5 to 4.7. I have been eating a bit more cheese recently, so I guess that would account for it. I could cut the cheese out, but am I...

    To snack or not?

I couldn't make it through the day if I didn't snack. I have peanuts in the afternoon and they work on two levels - one just being food, and secondly they're an appetite suppressant. They hit the spot much more effectively than fruit.

Feeling a bit wobbly at 4.7

I have a pretty regular diet, in which I eat lunch at 12.30 and then have an afternoon snack of peanuts at 3.15. Today I was feeling a bit wobbly before my snack so I did a quick blood test and I was 4.7, which is pretty normal for me. I was under the impression that 4.7 is within the normal...

How often should i get a HbA1c test done?

How often should i get a HbA1c test done? Is it every six months? My last one was in Sept, so I assume I'm due another one now, is that right? I've heard nothing from my GP, but I suppose you have to request one.

Does squeezing your finger affect your BG reading?

If you have to squeeze your finger to get a decent globule of blood, does that affect your BG rating? I've been finding recently that I don't get much blood coming out when I finger test, and I have to really squeeze a blood drop out. I usually test 4s and 5s, but I just tested 6.3 and I'm...

What the verdict on curries? What can I have?

Thanks everyone. I ended up having a fairly regular curry in the end. A smaller amount of rice than I used to have - and home cooked wholegrain rice rather than ordered in - and then a bit of creamy vegetable/paneer dish, some mushroom bhaji and some tarka dahl, with a couple of small bits of...

What the verdict on curries? What can I have?

Just about to order a takeaway curry - first one, post diagnosis - and I was just wondering what the verdict is on curries for diabetics. Are there any dishes that are particularly good for diabetics? And any that I should avoid? Are creamy sauces good or bad? I'm vegetarian, so hopefully that...

My first Hb1Ac result post diagnosis - do I need to stop?

Re: My first Hb1Ac result post diagnosis - do I need to stop Thanks guys! I added a slice of wholemeal bread to my lunch - my first bread since diagnosis - and it didn't bump my BG and sorted out the hunger problem. And maybe that will help stablise my weight. It would be nice to get to the...

My first Hb1Ac result post diagnosis - do I need to stop?

Re: My first Hb1Ac result post diagnosis - do I need to stop As for feeling better, I feel much better in terms of BG - I'd feel it acutely when my BG was high - but I don't feel so great since hitting this hunger patch. I've been ravenous all day and nothing I can do seems to satisfy me. I've...

My first Hb1Ac result post diagnosis - do I need to stop?

Re: My first Hb1Ac result post diagnosis - do I need to stop No idea about protein but I'm a vegetarian so I've been worried about protein because eating too much cheese and eggs isn't great for the cholesterol levels. Now that I'm under 5 for cholesterol - which is what my doctor advised I...

My first Hb1Ac result post diagnosis - do I need to stop?

Re: My first Hb1Ac result post diagnosis - do I need to stop Thanks guys. I was overweight when I was diagnosed - 14 stone 2 and six foot tall - but now I'm in the normal range. My BMI is 22.51. I'm in the upper third of the healthy range for BMI. I was aiming for the middle of that range...
