    Access to testing supplies query

debs248 is saying though that they no longer get test strips and lancets on their prescription anymore (and wasn't saying anything about paying for prescriptions) [Also I believe only those on diabetes meds get free prescriptions, if its being controlled by diet alone you do not get the...

    Access to testing supplies query

It is of course possible that its your local CCG or surgery that's done the crackdown rather than your particular nurse though

    Moderator Elections 2025

Afraid I'm going to have to decline (didn't even realise I had been nominated, oops) I already moderate for a busy-ish forum and related discord channel so I just don't have time for another unfortunately But thankyou for the nomination

    Jelly Babies

Same with me, if I dont like it I'll be even more stubborn than normal when hypo - and I'm stubborn as heck to begin with, so I have to have something I at least vaguely like I find Jelly Babies helpful cos the ones I get are 5 carbs each (so I know what I've having) and I can put them in my...

    Nocturnal hypoglycemia causing nightmares

Yep, I remember nocturnal hypos giving me nightmares when I was much younger

5 days with the Libre 2

I'm afraid you really do need to verify these with a blood glucose meter, its entirely not uncommon for all the CGM's to show lower than you are when less than 5 - in fact I think most of them even say you should check when it shows less than 5 - it could also be a faulty sensor - that does also...

Libre reading marked LO in huge letters

Have you actually checked what your blood sugars actually are (using a blood test meter) - they do say if it shows less than 5 you should verify it anyways, because they're not that accurate under 5 If its continually showing a lot less than it should it could well be faulty, but I know when I...

    How much insulin is 'normal'?

There is no normal amount, everyone is different. Some need quite a lot more than others, they just do - you need the amount you need, not what someone else needs, the same for fast-acting insulin for food as well, some need a lot more than others eg I know when I went on a carb counting...

Type 1's live till their about 80?

You have to compare it to the average of those without T1 to really say anything Averages are averages not absolutes - you may live til you're 100, and if someone else dies at 60 that's an average of 80.

    mis-diagnosis possible?

Though if it was only a recent T1 diagnosis, this may be the honeymoon period where your pancreas may be sort of working still and is now being helped by your injected insulin and is now helping a bit, I'm sure I've seen that mentioned a few times before

    Omnipod 5 emergency run out

Doers your son not have insulin pens as a backup? Everyone who uses any kind of pump should have, as they are not 100% guarantee to work or yeah if you run out If not you should be able to ring 11 and they should be able to sort out an emergency prescription (or get doctor to call you) - and I...

WHY WHY O WHY DOES THE NHS BUYING PEAPLE

Some do just need more insulin than others, I know when I went on a carb counting course in 2019, one person there needed 1 unit per 2 or 3 carbs eaten (whilst another only needed 1 unit per 50 carbs), you cant just assume everyone uses 1unit per 10, I know I need more than that Different...

Parent of Teen - Advice needed

You also need to remember that she will get highs and lows - and it is NOT NOT NOT a failure - its just happens and at various times there is diddly-squat you can seemingly do, I know I've seem people in these forums panicing when they go over 10 and seeking perfection - well with T1 for most...

WHY WHY O WHY DOES THE NHS BUYING PEAPLE

Personally speaking if I had pre-loaded cartridges I'd be probably wasting a lot of insulin, I use the smaller of the Medtronic reservoirs - the 1.8ml one, but I still never fill it, normally I only put in about 1.1ml per reservoir otherwise it'd last 5 days or so (I normally use about 30-35...

    The good old days, weren't.

Dunno, I was only about 9 or 10 (I think) when blood testing kits came in, and those things were more like guillotines for your fingers than anything else - I wonder what started my hatred of those finger prick tests ......... (I'm pretty sure my parents had aright fight trying to get me to do...

    Frustration at Libra 2 Plus

If its constantly showing low or a lot lower than it actually is (compared to blood tests) change it now - dont wait, it sounds faulty, change it now - Abbott will replace it (I dont use Libre's so not sure if you have to phone or use the web or an app, but you will be able to - was phone last...

Simplera sync supply & pump choice

May be worth finding out if they'd start you off on the 780g with the G4 sensors instead - I know I'm somewhere on the list to get my 780g upgraded to use the 'Simplera Syncs' (am currently using the G4's) - but that's now on hold til the supply issues are sorted (no ETA)

    Gram Flour

Onion bhajis are awesome I probably have some insulin for them, but not a lot as there's generally not too much gram flour on them anyway (well unless they're really awesome and I have a lot :))

Type 1 Diabetes Contact Dermatitis - PUMP

I also find that I have skin issues on my stomach for the infusion kits and sensors (Medtronic), and only my stomach, anywhere else is fine. Mine isnt too bad though so I use a barrier spray to help when I have the infusion kits there (I have the sensors on my arms)
