    Hospital food and low carb?

I’ve decided to take in some pork scratchings and some mini cheeses I had in the fridge. Just to stave off any hunger pangs. And I’ll stick with water and black coffee. Don’t want to risk milk.

    Hospital food and low carb?

Hi, I’m type 2 and due up in hospital for kidney/ bladder surgery next week. Hopefully it’ll only be an overnight stay. Thing is I’ve looked at the menu and there is nothing at breakfast to eat that isn’t carb based. I’m happy to fast usually but as I won’t be eating much the day before due to...

    Spike before dinner?

i was diagnosed at end of November. I’ve posted on here about it. I had hba1c of 79. I’ve gone Lchf and managed to lose 5 kg and according to mySugr and DiaConnect apps, I’ve managed to get it down to 58 and still going. I’m going for another official blood test next month so hopefully can get...

2 weeks in and making progress

Aargh. Christmas is hard. So much junk around and OH nicked some of my chicken drumsticks to hand round. Let them eat flipping cake, cos I can’t! Good news is MySugr app is showing estimated hba1c of 62 so the LCHF is working. Just another 20 to go.

2 weeks in and making progress

I got the Tee2 for free and bought extra strips. I’m using my fitness pal for carbs and mySugr for keeping note of my bs. http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product/tee2-blood-glucose-meter/ Have a read of the diet doctor website . https://www.dietdoctor.com/ I’ve not paid for anything apart...

2 weeks in and making progress

As per previous posts, diagnosed on 30/11/17 with hba1c of 79. Apparently was high way back in September 2015, but no one saw fit to tell me, and when I was with the nurse she showed me the records of my blood tests over the last 2 years, it’s been going up and up! So now on metformin but...

    Celeriac chips

I cut them chunky, then parboil. Then toss in Parmesan and cook in a hot oven until brown. The Parmesan makes them crispy :). Taste lovely as well.

How many times to test (daily)?

Yup. I don’t take it until I start eating. I thought it was getting better, but I’ve had the runs since 3pm, to the point that I daren’t go to bed. Seeing gp tomorrow to discuss slow release.

How many times to test (daily)?

    1) On metformin 2 ) Only been testing since Friday but not had any major surges 2 hours later yet. 4) The last 3 mornings have been 13. So dawn thing is happening . Just need to use up all my glucose I guess. I think I’ll test less often once I get my bs down. I started at 13.8 on Friday...

How many times to test (daily)?

Bearing in mind the strips aren’t cheap, when are the best times to test, as I don’t really want to test up to 7 times a day? Obviously first thing in the morning, then before every meal? After? Bedtime! I’m actually missing breakfast atm, as I don’t actually feel hungry, just coffee with...

Ow! Ow! Little pr!(k, my b¥m!

Well I’ve been going great guns now. Using side of my fingers and testing 7 times a day since Friday. 13.1 in the morning though! Then drops to 10 by bedtime. It’s early days I guess and I’ve only just doubled my metformin to 2 tablets a day (waited out stomach problems). Trying to average 30g...

Ow! Ow! Little pr!(k, my b¥m!

Middle of my middle finger tip set on 3. Just followed the instructions in the booklet. Since having chemo a few years ago my pain threshold is so low, for some reason. Just had a thought as well, as I’m not supposed to have blood taken from mastectomy arm, should I be pricking fingers on...

    First visit with doctor

I joined the club, just over a week ago and my stomach hasn’t stopped yet. Seeing gp on Tuesday so I can have sr instead. I had to leave a class for 15 minutes yesterday as I was in severe danger of an accident! Daren’t go up a dose yet until I’ve got this sorted. Is this how metformin works...

Ow! Ow! Little pr!(k, my b¥m!

Got my first meter. The Tee2 as recommended on here. Took a while to set it up, work it all out, do a control test etc. Then deep breath and click! YOW! I know I have a low pain threshold now, but this is ridiculous. OH nearly dropped his tea when I yelped! Meter needs a big warning label...

Well, the nurse was pretty useless!

That sounds what I’m looking for. :) Is there a good app for uk carb counting? I find that a lot of them have us measurements and then there’s all that net carbs malarkey as well. I just want to keep a rough track of my carbs so I don’t go over 30 a day for now.
