    Keto and Dawn Phenomenon!

Sweats, shivers, headache sounds like Somogyi Effect from low sugars. I experienced Dawn Phenomenon too when I first started Keto (just about 3 weeks ago). I started taking my meds right before sleeping to counter and found that I went hypo around 2-3am. I experienced sweat, shivers, headache...

    Dr advising against Keto Diet

Quick update. I got a second opinion from a Dr. who is a CDE (certified diabetes educator) and spoke with a RD (registered dietician) who affirmed everything I'm doing with Keto. I'm off of Glipizide for the time being, my sugars are still normal, and I'm feeling great!

    Dr advising against Keto Diet

I do use a blood glucose meter to self-test. I didn't test very frequently before but now I'm testing 3-6 times a day. Do you test for ketones as well? I'm on the fence about whether I should get a ketone meter. Are there signs to look out for when you get knocked out of ketosis? Also is it hard...

    Dr advising against Keto Diet

Thanks. I guess the numbers in OP didn't make sense to a lot of folks. Sorry everyone! lol I've listened to Barnard but not the rest. Is there a doctor or author that you follow for your own Keto Diet or do you just follow your own plan? I've seen some clinical trials for Type 2 Keto programs...

    Dr advising against Keto Diet

Thanks for the clarification. I'm from the US by the way. Are most people on this forum from UK? I'm realizing the A1c numbers here are different from the US.

    Dr advising against Keto Diet

When I was first diagnosed 20 years ago my doctor told me I got it through a mix of genetic and environmental factors. I laughed, "That just about covers everything then huh?" He laughed (nervously) too. I knew it right then. He had no idea how this disease works.

    Dr advising against Keto Diet

I went back to my medical records after reading this post. You're right that they never tested for insulin. Sounds like a no-brainer that they would test for this in Type 2s. I'm going to ask my doctor if he can track this along with my A1c.

    Dr advising against Keto Diet

I've noticed there is a little war between vegan and keto folks. I'm not sure if that's what's happening here. I do think there is a lot of misinformation out there about how carbs affect Type 2s. Inspiring to hear you are controlling your Type 2 well with keto. I'm giving it go!

    Dr advising against Keto Diet

Thanks everyone! This forum is awesome! I'm realizing I need a community to help manage this disease. Please keep the comments, thoughts, and words of encouragement coming! Interesting comment about body fat (not ingested fat) triggering insulin. Overall I think it's pretty ironic that my...

    Dr advising against Keto Diet

Long time Type 2 diabetic (almost 20 years), new to the forum, first post. My doctor threatened to put me on insulin in March (2018) because my A1c was 8.4% I’ve brought my average BG down from 194 (3 month avg) to 136 (1 month avg) with exercise and diet. I started out my diet by limiting...
