Type 2 Looking to educate myself!- what causes diabetes type 2 ?

My understanding (and very basic look at a very complex process, as we are dealing with the endocrine system) is that chronic hyperinsulinemia leads to insulin resistance and than T2D. How long it takes for insulin resistance to occur depends on your personal fat threshold. When you can no...

Isolate or not? How to deal with friends who don’t follow Covid measure?

Your own health is of primary importance. Sure it's hard to say "go away", but you should only have to do it once. Seriously, folk are dumb. Whole nations are dumb! With this new strain from Africa threatening even young people it is so important to be assertive and demand your right not to be...

Any new evidence on how cholesterol enters arteries?

Thanks for the links will look at them. Mark. Blood clot theory is that cholesterol cannot pass through healthy epithelium. If you look at image 1 of the report I linked to it shows cholesterol passing through healthy epithelium. All the other stuff in the image is occuring at the inflamed...

Any new evidence on how cholesterol enters arteries?

I was browsing the interweb and discovered this weighty pile of research and theory, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK343489/ and thought, wow, retention theory sounds possible! But then I had a good look at this, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK343489/bin/lipid_athero-Image001.jpg...

What do centenarians around the world eat?

It's the amount of carbs that you eat, how frequently you eat them throughout the day, and if you mix them with fats. Factor in your genetics and sooner or later hyperinsulinemia wins out and hyperglycemia ensues.

Warning signs of diabetic neuropathy in my feet?

By the time you are diagnosed with PN its almost too late. There are many tests but the time taken to do them means that only a couple are ever used, and these are fairly blunt tests as they are really only looking for loss of protective sensation. Generally early signs of neuropathy are...

    How important is weight loss?

My understanding is that sub cutaneous fat has a couple of negatives. It produces a hormone that makes you hungry, it increases resistance to blood flow so your heart has to work harder causing it to wear out, and it wears out you knees and hips and feet. So good reasons to lose those pounds.

    Cooking with rice

Not just the carbs, it is also deficient in nutrients. Modern rice is a similar story to processed wheat used for white bread. But you go for it, little bit won't hurt I'm sure

    Preventative measures for retinopathy

From a book about macular degeneration that I was reading the suggestions were avoid white death (processed carbs), avoid seed oils that have been extracted by solvents and further processing as these are high in omega 6 and oxidised fatty acids. Avoid processed foods, eat leafy greens high in...

This is obviously a frustration for you, and while this is not my speciality, I know of people who have had some relief with lymphatic drainage massage for pitting Edema. Dr Neil Barnard

From what I can see it's a low calorie high fibre diet. These have been shown to lose weight initially, which will assist with blood sugar levels, but body eventually reverts back to where it started as basal metabolic rate slows. Does not really address insulin resistance for the long term...

    Ankle/leg swelling

Edema is caused by many different conditions many of which have been mentioned already. By itself you cannot diagnose anything as it is so vague a symptom. It's like telling the doctor you feel tired all the time. Everything makes you tired, so nothing can be diagnosed. I find older people who...

    Do the cravings ever stop?

Stress and anxiety can stimulate cravings for carbs. Also fat cells release hormones that stimulate appetite, so if you were really overweight those empty fat cells are just begging to be filled. So your hunger may be the result of a double whammy. Sad news it takes 10 years for those extra...
