Possible misdiagnosis of type 2 diabetes

Just got my GAD65 antibodies test results back: 64 iu/ml. Reference range was 0-5 iu/ml. Still waiting to hear from my endocrinologist, but I’m assuming that it’s likely type 1/LADA then. I think my beta cell function is declining pretty rapidly at this point. Having a very difficult time...

Possible misdiagnosis of type 2 diabetes

Thanks for sharing! Crazy it took the system that many years to give you a correct diagnosis. Like you said, knowing won't really change my treatment at this point. But it does open up some other treatment/monitoring options with insurance. It will also be nice to get a better idea what I can...

Possible misdiagnosis of type 2 diabetes

Thanks, I had no idea C-peptide tests could be unreliable. I figured they basically used that and antibody tests for diagnosis. From what I’ve read it seems that some beta cell function can be preserved for years with LADA so makes sense that they are just watching your weight and BS levels...

Possible misdiagnosis of type 2 diabetes

Thanks for the reply. I had also read that around 50% of T1’s develop over 30 so was very surprised when she was so dismissive. I will have to look into tests for the other antibodies if the GAD comes back negative.

Possible misdiagnosis of type 2 diabetes

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the spring of 2019 at the age of 31. I went to the doctor for unexplained weight loss of 15 lbs over a few months. Blood work came back with an A1C of 7.8%. Because of my lack of risk factors (healthy weight, active lifestyle) and history of Celiac...

    Non Diabetic A1C

I was diagnosed at the end March 2019 with an A1C of 7.8% was put on Janumet 50/500mg twice a day. Found this site when researching the day after and immediately started lchf diet and started lifting weights 6 days a week. Before my diagnosis I had unintentionally lost 15lbs so went to the...

    Weight training

I would definitely push for test strips. Always good to know what your blood sugar is doing before/after eating certain foods/exercising.. especially if you're new to this. It will help you avoid foods that cause spikes. For me even a handful of blueberries caused a spike, but raspberries had...

    Weight training

I recently started working out again and also found that my blood sugars rose during weight lifting. But, for me anyways, it seems that as my body has gotten used to the routine my bs has stopped spiking

    Type 2 or LADA

Thanks for the response. I’m in Canada. I think it’s possible for me to pay for my own tests but like you I also need a prescription. Will definitely be pushing for it at my appointment in July. For now things are under control as long as I don’t have carbs. Averaging around 5mmol/L. But if I...

    Spiking after breakfast

I tested coffee this morning. I skipped breakfast and had 1 small cup at home at around 8am. Had another large cup when i got to work at 9. Definitely took me longer to recover from the large coffee but didn't result in a big spike as you can see from the graph. Looks like body doesn't like...

    Spiking after breakfast

Very interesting. Yes I do have a cup of coffee with my breakfast. Tomorrow i will try just having the coffee and see if I get the spike. Thanks for the tip

    Spiking after breakfast

I’ll definitely give not eating a try. I was having Dawn Phenomonen when I first started measuring could see slow ramp up starting at around 3am and peaking at about 7am to just over 7mmol. Haven’t been seeing that lately. The spike is about half an hour after I eat. So will definitely try not...

    Spiking after breakfast

I would actually prefer to skip breakfast. I haven't eaten breakfast on weekdays for 15 years. I never feel hungry until noon. My doctors the one who pushed me to start after diagnosis.

    Spiking after breakfast

I was diagnosed as type 2, 4 weeks ago(Age 30,5'11, 175lbs). I went to the doctor after 10 days of stomach pain and unintentionally losing 15lbs in a month. My A1C was 7.1. They started me on Janumet 50/500 (50mg sitagliptin,500mg metformin) twice a day. I was diagnosed with Celiac disease...

    Type 2 or LADA

Thanks. My endocrinologist seems pretty old school. Wasn’t willing to do any additional testing because my blood sugar levels weren’t that bad. Even when I suggested because of the celiac I was predisposed to other auto immune diseases she brushed it off. I have a follow up in July so I will...

    Type 2 or LADA

Yes, I've been finger pricking since I was put on the metformin and got a free trial of the freestyle libre earlier this week. My blood sugar has been pretty good. Was slightly high in the mornings when I first started testing a couple weeks ago but has returned to the high end of normal. I...

    Type 2 or LADA

Hi Guys, Two weeks ago I went to my GP with stomach pain and unintended weight loss of 15lbs in 1.5 months (Age:30, 5'11" 190->175lbs). Turns out that the stomach pain was unrelated (GERD), but when she did my routine blood work my A1C was 7.2. I was diagnosed with Celiac's disease almost 2...
