Can’t get lower than 10 morning read

Are you having protein with your salad? And have you tried having a small piece of protein (eg cheese) before bed? Sometimes too long a gap between eating and waking causes the liver to dump glucose into the blood but cheese helped me bring mine from 9.9 to in the 4s or 5s.

Forgot to fast — will test results be terrible?!

Thanks everyone, you’re eminently sensible! And you’re right — all I can do is wait and see. I got very caught up in wanting to do it (life/diabetes etc) all “perfectly” so was really beating myself up. Hopefully, worst case scenario they’ll be amenable to my considering statins in future if...

Forgot to fast — will test results be terrible?!

Looking for some reassurance if possible! I’ve been so stressed and preoccupied that I completely forgot (until a day late) that it’s best to fast before cholesterol tests and had four eggs :banghead: I’ve previously been recommended statins but the last couple of times (when I fasted) I was...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Hm, have gained a pound in the last couple of weeks — was ill and had a few more carbs than usual and way too many protein bars, so need to get back on track. The challenge is thinking up new meals so I don’t get bored, without eating too much veg or cheese!

    Gut healing?

So, after some horrible (chronic and acute) symptoms, I’ve decided I really need to finally try and tackle my gut health. I seem to remember seeing people share videos on this topic that were diabetes specific but have been searching the forums to no avail. Does anyone know what I’m thinking...

    Latest HBA1C results - yikes

You’ve obviously been having a difficult time mentally which makes everything harder, is there any support you can access to help with the anxiety? In the meantime, there’s no point dwelling on the past, you know how to do this, you’ve done it before which means you can do it again. If your DN...

    pioglitazone

I didn’t know about the stroke link, only its link to bladder cancer (which I found out about after taking it). I was started on this and Linagliptin then changed to Linagliptin only as the result of blood tests. Am now diet controlled.

    Low Carb Breakfast Ideas Needed

Unlike some others on low carb, I’m always hungry on waking and get a blood glucose surge if I go too long without eating. I tend to stick to eggs at breakfast (they are more filling than you might think, but you might need 3 or 4) but sometimes jazz them up with cheese or peppers or bacon, ham...

    Kedoacidosis

No, OP said levels need to be above 10 (and below 20)

Sorry I’m late! Dropped two pounds in the last two weeks — steady progress.

If I go too long without eating, my FBG can go into double figures

    T2 newbie

My understanding is that changing to low carb can affect energy levels in the short term (especially if you cut a lot in a hurry). Electrolytes, stock or Lo Salt help some people with tiredness and aches. I’d focus more on a low carb diet for now as that should bring down HbA1C on its own, and...

    Dawn Phenomenon, Evening Eating

Everyone’s different. I get a DP in double figures if I don’t have a small piece of cheese or other protein before bed, but it doesn’t take much. If you don’t already keep a food diary that might help you see if there’s a pattern.

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Thank you! Yes, it does add an extra challenge for sure, but when it comes to lowering blood sugar and losing weight, food does seem to be the key!

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Glad you’ve revived this thread! I weighed myself for the first time in two months and am delighted to have lost 9lbs :) Prior to this, it took me a year to lose one stone, so that’s a real boost. I think it’s a little bit due to reducing one of my meds and more due to following Dr Eric...

Frustrated HBA1C Not Going Down Fast Enough

Four months really isn’t long, and you’re moving in the right direction. As has been previously said, people who reduce very quickly sometimes deal with eye issues, and your body needs time to adjust. It took me about a year to bring my HbA1C from 81 to 37 with Linagliptin and diet but I wasn’t...

    Just been diagnosed

That’s great about your blood pressure, when mine was over 230, they insisted on hospitalising me to sort it out, which took 12 days! (And was still at 160/90 when I left). I can’t exercise due to disability but I’ve found low carb is really helping my BP as well as my blood glucose (am now down...

What do you eat to settle yr stomach?

Thank you both! I should have been clear that my meds aren’t for diabetes (that’s diet-controlled) but it seems like there maybe aren’t that many good low-carb options. I really wanted to stay in ketosis (as well as avoid the horrific constipation I get when I eat and then cut carbs) so nibbled...
