Taking insulin when out and about.

If I'm eating out (or going somwhere I might get tempted) I bring an isothermal cool bag for my supplies. I've never had any issue with quickly pulling up my shirt/jumper and injecting. I've never noticed anyone take notice either, and I've done it at markets, in the pub, in the park, no issues.

    Covid 19, T2 and petrified!!

Your experience of COVID is typical of most cases. Even people with underlying health conditions don't end up experiencing any complications, they're just ill with flu-like symptoms for a week or two. Sadly people have lost all sense of proportion when talking about COVID, this is due to the...

    Diabetes in 20’s

Don't worry, once you sort your insulin ratios out you'll be fine. We all get a little bit lazy sometimes but you're doing the right thing by wanting to take back control. You got this!

    Diabetes in 20’s

I'm 27 and was diagnosed in June. I find it a struggle to control my diabetes too, I think it's important to remember that we're trying to replicate what our bodies should do automatically and unconsciously via MDI. It'll never be perfect, all we can do is try our best. The main thing is not to...

    New and a bit confused

Before I was diagnosed with T1, I was very much like yourself, I had a massive sweet tooth and didn't think anything about eating whenever I wanted and whatever I wanted. I never seemed to gain weight which I now know is because my pancreas was failing but it did make me think that I could eat...

    Injection problem

I find this to be the case when injecting in my stomach, not so much on my thighs or lower back/buttock areas.

My current 3 meals a day

Like you, I enjoy a substantial breakfast in the morning. My stomach is normally empty after 10-12 hours since I last ate anything so it's normally very ready to digest some food! Unfortunately if you're looking to better control your blood sugars cereals are something you'll want to cut...

    Need help managing blood sugar

I think he's recommending you take double cream in your coffee. Far less carbs than regular milk. How are you when it comes to physical activity? I find I'm less insulin resistant when I've done some exercise during the day - doesn't have to be any too strenuous but a good walk can help...

    The heat

I've found trying to maintain stable BGL's during this hot weather a bit of a struggle. Some days I've found my insulin sensitivity spike, especially when I've been out and about, but with it being so warm during the nights I've found it difficult to get a decent night sleep, making me pretty...

T1 Newly Diagnosed - Here We Go!

I can definitely understand that. Fortunatley now I'm feeling more energetic and my concentration is better, I'm finding I'm able to enjoy many of my old hobbies again; things like reading are less of a chore and are enjoyable again. I'll have to do that more and hopefully it'll distract me from...

T1 Newly Diagnosed - Here We Go!

No, I understand. I try not to get frustrated but I find myself obsessing a bit about getting my blood sugars into the target area. I need to remind myself that it's a marathon not a sprint.

Lack of low carb food in Hospital

Sure, as I said it isn't ideal but it was probably the most diabetic friendly option, and even then, it isn't really an option for those trying to minimise their carb intake. What's worse is they actually ran out of porridge so the only options were Weetabix or Rice Crispies.

T1 Newly Diagnosed - Here We Go!

Hi Tash, thanks for the warm welcome. I've definitely got my fingers crossed, but what's done is done. I might not be able to rectify any damage completely but I can stop it getting worse, and you'e right, after having a quick glance at information on retinopathy, it seems as though there are...

T1 Newly Diagnosed - Here We Go!

Hello folks! My name's Alex and I'm 26. I was recently diagnosed with T1 Diabetes and beginning to get to grips with it all. I'd like to say that my diagnosis comes as a bit of a shock, but it really isn't. I'd been feeling run-down for a while: I was feeling tired all the time, I couldn't...

Lack of low carb food in Hospital

I spent the weekend before last in hospital and found the food generally fairly edible and balanced. Lunch and Dinner tended to contain some protein, two different types of veg and a source of carbohydrate (potato, rice, etc); along with some options for sandwiches. However Breakfast was pretty...
