    Thyroid and Keto

Hi! I have an underactive thyroid and have been following a pretty low-carb diet for some years (not necessarily keto) in an attempt to lose a stubborn 4-5kg. I find it very hard to lose any weight despite diet and exercise. In the first lockdown - spring/summer 2020 - I took the opportunity...

    Post prandial glucose levels

What I mean is your first one in the morning showed 6.1, but a few hours later - just before lunch, it may have been less than that. It may have been, say 5 - meaning that your 2-hr post prandial reading was in fact higher than before lunch. You need to test immediately before eating to get...

    Post prandial glucose levels

Hi! Did you test immediatel;y before lunch, following your morning testing? It could well have gone down in the meantime.

    Cholesterol Results

I think I've read that higher cholesterol actually has a protective effect with older women.

    Confused Newbie

Just to add to what others have said, although porridge for breakfast may seem healthy, it is pure carbs. I used to have it a lot but now have full-fat Greek yogurt (which is really filling) with berries and nuts and seeds. Or, eggs are also very satisfying. I don't think you eat rice that...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I'm new to testing but it's the other way round for me! FG is lower once I've done a morning jog, which makes sense to me as I assume some of it has been taken up by the muscles.

This might be useful which I came across recently.

    Hba1c

I think I've read that the level of triglycerides are more important than cholesterol as a marker for CVD, and yours are nice and low. I think that also means that your number of small dense LDL (the damaging ones) would be less too.

    Hba1c

Agree with Resurgam re Cholesterol. There are, however, some high profile and esteemed medics who go against the mainstream brainwashing. Amongst many others, you could look at 'The Great Cholesterol Con' by Malcolm Kendrick (a GP) and anything by Aseem Malhotra (a Cardiologist). Just google them.

    HbA1c after 12 months

An Hba1c of 37 is absolutely fine, especially as it was 97 last year! I can understand, however, why you are keen to get your apparently high FBG down, as I am in a similar situation, and was puzzled as to why it was so. Searching for an explanation, I recently came across this video (with the...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I may have found the answer! (Full article from dietdoctor.com) 1. Relax, it is normal — call it “adaptive glucose sparing” “We definitely see that in people who are doing low carb long term, the majority will find that their fasting blood glucose becomes their highest value of the day,” says...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

No problem - I was just wondering if you - as a more experienced user - had any insight into why my overnight fasting was higher than daytime. But, as you say, we are all so different! I am assuming in my case, the pre-breakfast exercise helped 'push' some of the glucose into my muscles...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I have only just started using a meter, and my results are the other way round! Usually low 6's just after waking, then around 5.5 after morning exercise (still fasting). Daytime levels are not too bad ar all. Do you know why they are higher at night?

    Testing for LADA

From 'werywell health' : "It's not uncommon for someone to have both thyroid disease and diabetes. In fact, if you have type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, or metabolic syndrome, your risk of developing thyroid disease is increased. On the flip side, thyroid disease increases...

    Testing for LADA

TSH of 10 would indicate hypothyroidism. Your T4 sounds in range but could probably be higher. Might be worth going back to the doctor to discuss this. You can also get some good advice on Thyroid UK forum (similar to this). Make sure you get a print out of your blood results as they can...

    Testing for LADA

This sounds a bit similar to me! I have Hashimoto's (autoimmune condition causing hypothyroidism and TPO antibodies) which was diagnosed by chance about 15 years ago, and am on levothyroxine, but feel I am inadequately dosed with this. I only had my Hba1c tested a few years ago, and it has...

    Scared to death

The nurse! You have had a very bad experience with all this. Did the doctor give you an explanation of your blood test results? You have a right to be given a print out of your test results, and then you could post them on here for comment by some of the very experienced and knowledeable...

Insulin resistance, t3, GLUT4, dawn phenomenon

I found this very interesting as my Hba!c has always hovered between 39 and 42 despite my low carb diet. I have only had it tested in the last few years and have been on levothyroxine for about 15 so I don't know what it was beforehand. I have recently bought a glucose meter (which I haven't...

    Type 1 Thyroid.

Hi! Thyroid UK have a very good online forum (rather like this one) with a wealth of experience and useful information. I have Hashimoto's (underactive thyroid) which is an autoimmune condition, as is T1 diabetes, and there can be an increased risk from one AI condition to another.
