Am I doing this right? Low-carb diet and blood sugar readings

Thanks! I generally test my blood when I first wake up, before each meal, and 2 hours after each meal. Although the strips and lancets are getting expensive, so I may need to cut back. I'm considering getting one of those constant ones that go in your arm.

Am I doing this right? Low-carb diet and blood sugar readings

I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and ignored it for the better part of a year. I decided I needed to take it seriously in early December for the sake of my children. My doctor prescribed me metformin, but honestly, I don't want to be beholden to pills for the rest of my life if I don't have...

    How diabetic am I?

My doctor phoned me today to say I have a hb1ac level of 53, which is severely diabetic, and I must start medication immediately. Is this correct? I am struggling to find a conversion table that puts this in terms that make sense. Here's one from this very website, for example: It says it's...

Hit me with your low carb lunches!

I've adapted to low carb breakfast, dinner, and snacks just fine, but lunch is killing me. I think it's because for as long as I can possibly remember, lunch = sandwich and crisps. That's literally all I've ever had for lunch. It doesn't help that it has to be low carb, lowish calories, tasty...

Diagnosed, but not really. So confused.

That is definitely the motivation. I've never managed to stick to a diet or exercise change when it was just for me, but now I'm doing it for her, it's not so bad. :)

Diagnosed, but not really. So confused.

Thank you, you're very kind! With regards to when I'm having the second one... I know this is bad, but I was meant to have it in July. I got the results of the first one in April. But my wife had a baby in May, so I got distracted, and never really got around to it. They haven't chased me up...

Diagnosed, but not really. So confused.

That is how I feel. It feels like I've got all the downside of having the illness, and none of the benefit of being helped or treated for it.

Diagnosed, but not really. So confused.

Before my diagnosis, it would always be some form of potato, pasta, bread, rice, with some meat and a bit of veg. Since diagnosis, just trying different things. Ceaser salad for lunch is good. Something veg heavy for dinner generally. Yoghurt and berries for breakfast. That sort of thing...

Diagnosed, but not really. So confused.

Presumably, I've lost my chance to be diagnosed now, as I've been eating healthy and cutting carbs for a while now. I guess I'm going to be stuck in some weird mid-ground. Not diabetic (medically speaking) but still unable to eat all the food I enjoy the most.

Diagnosed, but not really. So confused.

Okay, that makes sense. So if I test before a meal, and then 2 hours after, and my sugar has spiked into the diabetic range, then it's something I need to cut out? And if it hasn't then it's probably fine to eat (with testing every now and again to make sure.)

    Are cheat days allowed?

The consequences are what I'm looking to understand. I.E lets say I for 30 days of the month I ate below 100g of carbs, but then on the 31st I had a burger and chips for dinner, and then went straight back to below 100g for the next 30 days, what would be the impact of that? I'm aware my blood...

Diagnosed, but not really. So confused.

Hi all. Forgive me if this comes across as a little melodramatic. I'm just having a very low moment (mood, not blood sugar.) I was sent for a blood test, and the result came back that I was type 2 diabetic, but only just. If the HbA1c threshold is 48, then I was 49. The nurse who called me to...

    Are cheat days allowed?

I was told I was borderline diabetic, so I've been doing low carb, calorie counting, and walking to lose weight. My question is, are cheat meals allowed? For example, if I was to have a burger and chips once a month, or a slice of cake at my daughters birthday party, is that generally okay if...

I'm really concerned I've been given bad advice...

I had to do a blood test for suspected diabetes type 2, and it came back that I did have it, but very borderline. I can't remember what the actual numbers were, but let's say if the threshold for being diabetic was 40, then I was 40.1. Only just over. I was told this on a call with a diabetic...
