    Bad day

Thank you for the replies. They wanted to re test my c peptide before starting me on insulin as first c pep showed I was making a good amount of insulin still- they thought it may have not been reflective of how my pancreas was working ie it’s more erratic than test suggests,I was fasting during...

Talk to me about your smart watch

I have a iPhone. I downloaded the free ‘Shuggah’ app on the App Store and it has a setting where you can display your blood sugar readings on your calendar/schedule. Then you choose a watch face on your Apple Watch that displays your calendar, and your blood sugar comes up on your watch. You can...

    Bad day

Hello all, So I spoke with my dsn on Tuesday and she suggested I try ‘eating normally’ (her words)- she means compared to the low carb low cal I’m currently doing. This would be to see what my blood sugar does so they have a better idea of how my pancreas is functioning (in addition to the...

    Newly Diagnosed type 1

Hiya and welcome to the club no one wants to join! I got diagnosed in a similar way to you, felt generally rubbish, partner frogmarched me to gp who found I had similar levels to yours and packed me off to a&e with dka and I was on a drip for 8 or so hours. Then blood tests confirmed type...

Sleeping ( actually not sleeping )

Short term when I worked nightshifts I used to use promethazine which you can buy over the counter. But long term being prescribed melatonin really sorted my chronic sleep issues, as well as a magnesium sleep spray before bed. But getting a gp to prescribe melatonin is difficult if you’re in the...

    Type 1'stars R Us

Thanks so much for the reply! Very good suggestions. My friend who is type 1 actually suggested starting on a morning insulin dose too, and I think that’s what will be needed sooner rather than later. but consultant wants to recheck my c peptide levels first as they showed I was producing a good...

    Type 1'stars R Us

Thank you for your thoughtful reply! I have had a gad test an cpep- I had high antibodies in gad results but c pep showed decent insulin production so consultant thinks repeat is indicated to check whether my pancreas is erratically producing insulin and caught it in a good day. This will inform...

    Type 1'stars R Us

Hello everyone, I’ve previously been posting in type 2 as that was what I was told I have but now re diagnosed as type 1/1.5 LADA. So I’m armed with a Libre and ready to tackle whatever happens now, which starts with repeat c peptide amongst other bloods, and then discussion as to whether to...

    Type 2 Diabetes type 1 or 2?

Update- turns out I have LADA which explains a lot. Consultant ordered repeat c peptide as thinks my production may be erratic and they caught it on a good day.

    Positive LADA

Yep that’s a familiar situation- only way I have been keeping my blood sugar reasonable is very low carbs and cals. Upside of that is I lost a lot of my excess weight but being told I have LADA explains why my blood sugar does what it wants a lot of the time despite my best efforts. Mornings...

    Positive for LADA

Thank you for the encouragement it’s appreciated. Yes you are totally right, I’m lucky that I am not so worn down and have a little medical knowledge to be somewhat confident enough to advocate for myself, but a lot of people understandably aren’t - for various reasons- and end up feeling judged...

    Positive for LADA

Thanks so much for the reply and the welcome into a club none of us want to be in! I haven’t heard about Jessie inchauspe but will look her up. I have coeliac disease so I am already gluten free- in fact the nurse at the diabetes clinic hearing I was coeliac resulted in her suspecting I had LADA...

    Positive for LADA

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I am lucky that I don’t have to go further down the route of being told of /judged for not managing my diabetes and have an explanation as to why it suddenly all fell apart. And also it prompted me to lose the excess weight and generally feel healthier as a...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Higher than I’d like 8.2 I had my consultant appt yesterday and they confirmed I have type1/ LADA and not type 2. Which helps explain the somewhat erratic morning readings. My pancreas is spluttering to a halt. Have a good day everyone

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Higher than I’d like 8.2 I had my consultant appt yesterday and they confirmed I have LADA. Which helps explain the somewhat erratic morning readings. My pancreas is spluttering to a halt. Have a good day everyone

    Update on low carb/IF

So another update- I have LADA not t2. Had an appointment with the diabetes consultant today who said I have high levels of antibodies and wants a repeat c pep to confirm whether my production is erratic or ok for now in terms of starting insulin etc. but she praised me for my improved levels...

    Positive LADA

I’ve just joined the Lada club too as of today- I totally get how you are feeling. Bit of trepidation, but vindicated that I’m not rubbish at managing my diabetes… it’s a lot!
