    Nail bed infection - why?

That is how I was diagnosed 25 years ago. My background sugar level was impeding my ability to fight the infected nail bed. My GP worked it out and in a matter of minutes had confirmed the diagnosis.

    Night Sweats

I find that if I have nothing then I have night sweats but if I eat some carbs they are much reduced but basically you just have to work out what suits you over time. Some swear by jelly babies, and some jelly beans but the end result is pretty much the same.

    Metformin - Timing

If I understand the way metformin works correctly, it slows down your body's absorbsion of glucose (carbs particulalry) into your bloodstream hence the direction to take it with or after food. If you take it on an empty stomach it can play havoc with your bowels!

    High blood suger levels

I would drink plenty of water and go for a walk but at this time of night you might be better going up and down the stairs - you need to burn off some of that glucose which you are unlikly to do very fast sitting or lying down.

    Diabetic food and drink Manufacturers

Surely the best diabetic food is fresh natural produce? The issue we all face on a daily basis is will it affect my BS? Carb control and portion control generally work but education is the key. Personally I would buy nothing labelled as being especially for diabetics. Diagnosed Type II 1998...

    Energy drink?

The issue with needing to drink during exercise is more about hydration is it not. The body will naturally convert body mass whether fat or muscle through ketosis and even then only when significant exercise is being undertaken. Glucose 'energy' drinks do not give energy any more than any...

    Instant Energy

Is it not the case that a high fat diet will just make you fat or is that too simplistic? I suspect that if there are fat deposits present these will be converted into energy through ketosis faster than your body can metabolise dietary fat but that is equally simplistic I suspect. Diagnosed...

    Probably newly diagnosed-blood results bad

Martina if this is really how you treat everyone that you come across who does not agree with everything you say, or who in your opinion is not quite as intelligent as you think you are, then I am not entirely surprised that you are left feeling that you are being ignored or not being taken...

    Hi all

I recommend having something to eat before bed like some crackers (Carrs Original) and a natural yogurt. If you are low carbing I would put money on your morning levels reducing over a few days. I think you are suffering from what is sometimes described as liver dump or the dawn phenomina...

I have been using an iBGStar now for nearly six months. At first I was also using my old meter at the same time until I was confident with it but the size and convenience and integration with my iPhone caused me to stop using the other meter after about a week. I have total confidence in the...

As has been said finding out what the Hba1c levels are is very important to allow you to understand what the actual situation is with control - I used to be in denial and knew that if I tested at certain times the levels from finger prick testing would be fine but the Hba1c levels cannot be...
