    Diet and Monitor Advice please

I suspect the actual machines are fairly accurate but it's the conditions they have to work in. I have two monitors - Kinetic and GlocoRX Nexus. The Nexus came with some glucose solution to test the strips. The strips have a range to go with the solution. I've had two boxes of strips - both say...

    Re-diagnosed (warning)

I was diagnosed in 2013 with type 2 and controlled it by diet. Recently was feeling had been feeling tired and unable to concentrate. Thought it was an old age type thing. Previous HbA1C was about 8 months ago - 66 mmol/mol - a bit high (had been around 45) but not too bad - doctor thought it...

    HbA1c represents a 4 week average?

If organisations say it's an average of the last 8-12 weeks then someone along the line has misinterpreted the test or isn't using average to mean "mean". If red blood cells live about 4 months then unless all your red blood cells were created 4months ago then it's not going to be a mean - in...

    Oddly good HbA1C

Thanks. It could also be that previously I was showing a higher HbA1c due to the residue from when I was diagnosed and very high. They say the cells last about 3 months but maybe some can linger.

    Oddly good HbA1C

Tanks for the reply. Just comparing it with what I was getting before. When I say 5-6 that is more of a baseline - what I expect to get down to after meals or a bit of light exercise. Previously I was hitting 4.3-4.5 but now I am more like 5.5. Could be that the peaks are no different - or maybe...

    Oddly good HbA1C

I'm diet controlled. Had my test results recently and it was 37 mmol/mol. You would think that's good except that I've been fairly inactive due to a hip problem (and work) and a little less strict with my diet. Self testing I used to be usually between 4 and 5, for the last 6 months or so it's...

    Unacceptable behaviour at annual review

Had you discussed your weight before? I would say deal with one thing at a time. I guess the most critical thing for you was BG control and you should be congratulated with dealing with that. Maybe now it is time to look at your weight, you've shown that you can control your life so it should...

    What should I aim for

And just a note to say thanks to everyone on this site which helped me to ignore the nurse who told me not to change my lifestyle too much and rely on drugs.

    What should I aim for

Thought I would give an update. I had a hba1c 3 months after diagnosis, 42 = 6.0% = 7.0. Was told not to request a test myself but to wait for them to schedule it in future - didn't feel guilty about it though. Just had a new one at 37 = 5.5 = 6.2. I've been a lot less strict about diet and...

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

Well I do blame me. Overworking and trying to combat tiredness by eating vast amounts of sugar and chocolate. A bit of research would have shown me this was inevitable. So I'm to blame but don't feel guilty. Nothing I can do about that now, it's in the past and gone. Just have to make the best...

    Am I diabetic?

The liver and pancreas can get out of kilter with the liver dumping too much glucose into the bloodstream and the pancreas trying to compensate with insulin and ending up with positive feedback. Eventually pancreas damage. Eating can cause the liver to stop as it expects glucose to come from...

    blood results too perfect!

All approx 5.4 is a bit suspicious. Perhaps she is testing when she knows things will be lowish then eating things that raise bg after the test. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

insulin resistance question to clarify situation.please

Just a guess but I thought insulin was taken if the pancreas wasn't producing enough. Metformin reduces the glucose production by the liver and increases insulin sensitivity so that would help insulin resistance. I don't take drugs so haven't researched it much. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Not sure what's going on.

Maybe as you have reduced your food intake your metabolism has slowed down and you are storing fat. Can you try taking more exercise to wake things up a bit - especially after meals. How often do you eat? Maybe eat less but more often so your body doesn't think it needs to store. After a few...

Exercise, exercise and then do some exercise!

Just do what you can. Swimming and walking sounds good. I do some sit-ups a couple of times a day - takes under a minute. Can also fit in some stretching type things which will help. While doing most things you can exercise muscles - washing up / ironing are good times. Can do some strengthening...

Exercise, exercise and then do some exercise!

Hi Dommcb, Well done for keeping things under control. I was diagnosed t2 about the same time as you. Previously had no exercise but (when not working) a "healthy" diet of mainly carbs. Control started when I exercised which caused a massive bg drop. Had a hip replacement and other one not too...

    Chinese takeaway

Or I could do a search of this forum if I was at all smart. There is a Chinese takeaway thread with lots of suggestions. Spare ribs sounds good and meat, veg, black bean sauce should keep me going. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Chinese takeaway

Having my first one post diagnosis tomorrow. Visiting relatives and no get out clause. What should I order? Tandoori mixed grill works well for Indian but suspect Chinese might be a bit of an issue. Suspect even a mixed veggies might come in a sugar sauce. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

I am on a low carb diet but blood glucose not coming down

Re: i am on low carb diet but blood glucose not coming down Also decide whether you want to control bg or fat intake. Fat got a lot of bad press but that was more to do with the food industry reliance on sugar production. I (and a lot here) don't worry too much about fat and it seems to take...
