How to explain diabetes to a child?

He fully understands that I need medicine, can bring me my meter and juice or a snack. It's just how suddenly the hypo occurred and the fact that I got zero warning, due to being pregnant and running my sugars around 4.5 my hypo awareness isn't what it used to be. He totally went in to shock...

He understands about me needing sugar and he can go get me a snack ect and even helps me with my injections but I cant seem to explain to him how to call 999 if it ever happens when we're alone. I feel terrible for heaping so much responsibility on to his wee shoulders :(

How to explain diabetes to a child?

Earlier tonight I had a severe hypo, I don't remember anything about it. My partner is nightshift and was woken up by me shouting. This all happened in front of my almost 3 year old son who was unsurprisingly frightened. My dilemma is how to I go about explaining to him about diabetes and what...

    bad bad mood.

Oh no, that's such a shame! I'm sure when you tell your hubby your bm is at 27, he'll fully understand why you're acting out of character! As the others have said, get some quick acting insulin to bring that reading down to a safer level and test for ketones also. Are you feeling unwell...

    Hypo awareness.......

I had quite a severe hypo in work today. I work in a call centre and was dealing with quite an irate customer so I was distracted and I missed my usual warning signs. Due to the adrenaline flowing from the 'heated discussion' I missed the usual feeling flushed and shaking hands. By the time I...

What every day factors affect your BG levels?

I know Brett, all these factors seem to make levels yoyo, I also find that they can make you over correct a high and end up extremely low and feeling miserable due to a drastic drop. Just one of many day to day things we deal with :) how will your readings be with the clocks going back? Sent...

What every day factors affect your BG levels?

I know the feeling coco, it's so hard to judge how certain things will affect your readings....my dad wasn't well a few months ago and the worry just made my readings yoyo constantly, diabetes definitely isn't the easiest thing to manage Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    PARALYSIS ?????

I know that unstable levels for long periods of time can affect nerve endings ect but I haven't heard of anyone experiencing paralysis due to it. Make an appointment to see your specialist who'll be able to clarify things for you and possibly even arrange a course of action to get to the bottom...
