Thanks everyone, I am reading all your replies, not up to commenting much myself at the minute, feeling rough.

    Type 2 Meal replacement shakes

I can't have coffee. I can't see that lasting me anyway! :) At least not at the moment. I'm going to try making my own shakes as well, so it's not all bad. Anyone use Agave Nectar here? What's the general opinion?

    Type 2 Meal replacement shakes

Oh good! I will carry on with them, try making some of my own as mfactor suggests and maybe buy the whey one when it's on 50% off...

    Type 2 Meal replacement shakes

Thank you, this is useful. I like the idea of the peanut butter. The protein powder you add to your home made ones, is that the same as the one you linked me to or a different type?

    Type 2 Meal replacement shakes

Hello, I often can't face eating in the morning, I have Asda meal replacement shakes (their version of Slimfast). I tested this morning, I was 7.7 two hours after having it. Is that ok, and if so will it be a viable breakfast replacement ongoing? Are there better ones out there that are more...

Why did my doc prescribe 4 times as much medication as I needed?

Two years post diagnosis, I'm still on 'the full monty' and I wasn't aware that it's unusual until I read your post. But I struggle with diet and other conditions so maybe I need to be on it. Is magic number hba1c? Mine was 6.6 last time.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

So far today, a meal replacement shake, because I couldn't face eating. I need to find a low carb version, any suggestions? I've got a meter, my diagnosing doctor was a darling and just gave it to me with two prescriptions for strips. But diabetes nurse said don't test, so I didn't. But this...

Is low carb bad for people with underactive thyroids?

Thanks for the replies. In response to questions: I am on 125mcg thyroxine daily, was on 150 until I lost weight, expect most recent blood test is going to tell me to go back up to that since I regained the weight. Doctor said the same sort of thing about the pain. I've been hypothyroid since...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Managed to eat fish twice today by accident, smoked mackerel with cream cheese and creme fraiche for lunch, also some mash potato. Dinner was a salmon fillet and pasta. Porridge for breakfast. But I've only just decided tonight to try low carb. So I'm researching. I guess I would need to replace...

Is low carb bad for people with underactive thyroids?

Thank you. I think I will try it for a few weeks and see how I get on. I must admit I'm a bit frightened because I've always been told that butter and cream and cheese and meat are bad for you. Cheese especially is one of my favourite foods though, I could eat that all day. Ok I'm going to give...

Is low carb bad for people with underactive thyroids?

Well those links in my post... some of them suggest I would be making my thyroid condition worse if I low-carbed. Something to do with the thyroid requiring carbs to produce the necessary hormones, so in a badly functioning thyroid low-carbing would be detrimental. But like I say, I don't know...

Is low carb bad for people with underactive thyroids?

May I ask if you're on thyroxine and if so what dose? Has it changed since your pregnancy?

Did they improve when you stopped? Or did they change your medication, because then you wouldn't be able to tell I guess...

Is low carb bad for people with underactive thyroids?

You make a very good point. Maybe subconsciously I'm trying to find reasons I can't do low carb, because it's really, really daunting. It would be such a huge change for me. I'm going to do some more research on this forum.
