    Starting insulin tomorrow... advice

Hi there, Who is your appointment with tomorrow, and who is overseeing the change to your treatment? If it's one of the MODY specialist nurses that have been trained by Exeter you'll be fine. They may suggest a combination therapy for you so that you continue on gliclazide and start with a...

    Remarkable Changes

@Fenn, it does sound like there is something unusual going on with your particular diabetes, and I wouldn't necessarily rule out a genetic cause unless you have already been tested for this. Everyone is different, and some MODYs have been diagnosed in their 40's (have a search for posts from...

    Remarkable Changes

Have any of your family members been tested for monogenic diabetes? The number of your family members with diabetes suggests it's a possibility... Have a look at https://www.diabetesgenes.org, they have a MODY probability calculator so you can check whether it's likely or not. _petal_

    Type 1 MODY 4

Hello fellow MODY! Sorry I can't help with your particular genetic mutation (I'm a MODY3, the most common type and there are barely any of us here), but you could get in touch with Maggie Shepard at Exeter and ask what it means for you. Maggie's contact details are here...

new t1 and being rationed strips

Hi andyh67, Whilst it's great that everyone is directing you to clinical guidance documents, be aware that they may be considered meaningless unless you are classed as type 1. Despite being diagnosed as type 1 for 29 years, my change of diagnosis to MODY (monogenic diabetes) means that I no...

I Have Been Type One For 4 Years But Just Found Out Im Actually Monogenic (mody)

I'm also a mody (hnf1a / mody3) and I was also originally diagnosed as Type 1. In my case it took 29 years before my diagnosis was changed, which happened about 5 years ago now. I have had 2 attempts at Gliclazide but both times it hasn't worked that well for me, so I've reverted back to...

    MODY

Hi there, I'm a Mody3 (HNF1A gene), is there anything in particular you want to know? I may not be able to answer if it's a different variant you're interested in, but there's no harm in asking! As a (mis?)diagnosed type 2, have you even been put on Gliclazide, and if so, was your blood sugar...

    Hiccups!!!

Whenever I get hiccups, the only thing that ever works for me is to drink a dessert spoon of malt vinegar, stops the hiccups straight away... Tastes disgusting though! :-(

    Forum questions: additional forums?

As desidiabulum has said, a MODY forum probably wouldn't get many posts, but it would be nice to have somewhere to call home, and may attract some more of us to join up if it appears we have a place. It's a bit lonely being a MODY...!

Newbie - Diagnosed but type unconfirmed

Hi there, I have recently been diagnosed as having monogenic diabetes (MODY3), but things are a bit different as I had a diagnosis of type 1 for 29 years before this. I'm not sure how they would go about identifying the type of diabetes in someone who is newly diagnosed, but there is info on...

Type 1 Any good iPhone app recommendations?

The one I use is MyNetDiary Diabetes as this can track food / carbs, exercise, meds and blood sugar. I started out with MyNetDiary Pro though, so although they are both separate apps by the same company, all of the food & exercise data can be seen by both. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Type 3 diabetes I think

I see where the confusion is, as lots of journal articles refer to 'Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young Type 3', as in the following article: http://m.care.diabetesjournals.org/content/31/2/306.full This is very different to the Alzheimer's Type 3 also described. There is lots to be careful...

    Type 3 diabetes I think

Hi there, There is a type 3, also known as monogenic diabetes or MODY. I was diagnosed as a type 1 in 1984 but last year my consultant made a connection between the medical conditions I have and I had a c-peptide test followed by genetic testing which confirmed a monogenic rather than...
