HEllo to all,
I've to ask to the forum an advice about everning cravings after the meal.
I'm T2D unfer metformin, and I lost 17 kg with a strong diet. Now I'm 66-68 kg and I think that for 183 cm is qute good: BMI is 20.

Sometimes happen I start to have at the evening a small craving.

Im wondering what is the best: from the diabetics point of view
A wholegrain based thing for instance a ryebread like Rye crispbread or this sesame crispbread or bakery-made wholegrain bread.
Or some small fruit like a peach, a small pear or a big plum. OR finally a small piece of dairy product like feta, riccotta or primo sale cheese.

What really like of course is some fruit sorbetto or icecream, but I suppose I could take it rarely, at most once a week.

What do you think?

.

My personal choice is 8 or 10 pimento stuffed olives, OR a stick of Celery spread with 20g of Brussel Pate OR peanut Butter. Works for me.

from what you listed I would say some riccotta with a few berries in it.

I like batons of Carrott (cut sticks) or Cucumbet with Tzazkiki (apologise for **** spelling) or Humous (red pepper one particularly nice). Nom nom! Makes a change from half a tube of Pringles!

I simply darent have ice cream (yet!) .... But sure I will succumb one day!

I crave veggies and avocado before bed. Or a half grass fed hot dog. No carbs for me before bed but a small protein fat snack helps me sleep.

This is a good idea!
I could take the industry made one made with skimmed milk, or the one made with goat milk i take it at the goat stable near the fuel station, or the one made with whole milk in the cheese factory (cheaper).

I go the peanut butter, or cheese, or kefir route.

To my delight, homemade kefir doesn't seem to impact my blood glucose at all.

Low carb hot chocolate is a brilliant late night hunger pang killer, as well as being deliciously decadent.
(cocoa powder, artificial sweetener such as erythritol and cream, in a mug of boiling water. I have a recipe, if anyone wants the proportions)

I'm not really fond of peanut butter, or I never found a good quality one - I only find it sometimes at LIDL

I get the munchies in the evening, it went away for a while, and an 8oz bag of peanuts doesn't do my FBG any good :D. I like the idea of olives. No food for me today until 7.30pm, then I must resist anything else until tomorrow

Olives in a small bowl, interspersed with 1 or 2 sun dried tomatoes in sunflower oil makes a tasty treat when you need a savoury delight pre-bed.

I'd go with the small piece of cheese with maybe a celery baton or similar. But if I want to be decandent, then I'd go for the low carb hot chocolate that Brunneria mentions. :D

This sounds delicious @Brunneria. I'd love the recipe please :)

and, as if by magic:

Low Carb Hot Choc
Boil kettle.
Add a heaped teasp of good quality cocoa powder to a big mug
Add 1.5 ish heaped teasp of sugar substitute to mug
Make the powders into a paste with a dribble of water (get rid of the lumps)
Add boiling water and stir until smooth
Top up with double cream.
Add caramel, lemon, orange or mint essences, if desired
Enjoy

All quantities adjustable for the size of the mug, the sweetness, and your personal tastes. I like Green and Blacks cocoa powder, and use erythritol, because it doesn't have that bitter chemically tang that other sweeteners have.

Thanks @Brunneria; I shall give this a try soon as, maybe with and without the additives. A mug of Cadbury's used to be my nightly pre-bedtime drink - but that's a dim & distant memory now, sadly. I still have 3 tubs of the stuff languishing in my cupboard, hoping that one day I shall be able to try it again.

Mm thanks for the ideas Brunneria. I have made this cocoa before but had not thought about the essences. That would feel like a real treat. Reading these threads you always learn something new xx

How do you make kefir? I have kefir water culture.
