Type of diabetes
Type 1
Hey guys, I was diagnosed with T1 diabetes a couple a day ago.

I was wondering if my diabetes is quite bad? My average just before I started insulin is like 18-22. Even with insulin (3days now) it rarely gets in normal range, usually like 13.

I also feel hypo when I go below like 11. I feel shaky, like I need sugar. Have I become so used to this high Blood sugar that I can't cope with this lower level?

"I have only been diagnosed type 2 four six weeks but it has been the worst six weeks of my life. I had constant headache chest infections, lethargy depression at times i thought I was heading for a breakdown. Everyone says it gets easier as your body gets used to lower sugars. I dearly hope and prey that these side effects will diminish because life at the moment is the pits of despair. If I knew it was going to be as bad as this I doubt, I would of started along this journey, but I've started and the only way is through.

Just remember you are never alone and have the full support of everyone on this forum with their ultimate wisdom

Good luck.

Thanks man! I don't have much worry, maybe that's worrying? ha. But I don't mind much, I was somewhat unlucky and I accept that, I don't feel the need to get depressed or anything over that, I will just have to stick through it.

your bloodsugars will be all over the place having just been diagnosed but they ll come down so try not to worry to much,I was diagnosed july but things will get better and once you learn to take control you ll be fine bud ;),this sites amazing if you need advice ;) some amazing people on here.

@Fall2GetUP As your body is used to running at higher levels, the feeling you are getting when levels hit around 11 is a 'false hypo' as your body gets used to lower levels, that feeling will stop.

As you have only been on insulin for a few days, your body will need time to adjust to it then you can speak to DSN specialist nurse about how much insulin to take/carb counting etc.

I have been diabetic for 25years and it will get easier, it will become 2nd nature for you.

Hi
Thanks for the reply, I am one of the unfortunate born worriers, I always have to have something to worry about. If I find I am not worrying, then I start to worry in case I have missed something I should be worrying about.....................

you can still eat sweets , biscuits, cakes etc as long as you cut back on the qty, I'm a diabetic type 1 had it for 3 years every night about 7pm I enjoy a rocket ice lolly. my diabetic nurse told me its ok basically eat what you want in small qtys but be carefull.

Thanks, honestly, I think the lack of sugar is a good thing.

Yep my nurse did tell me I can eat sweets as long as I accommodate my insulin for them! Thanks for your advise :).

Hi,

I've been type 1 from I was 2.5 and I'm nearly 21. My son has just been diagnosed on Halloween night and he's only 17 months. His sugars are sitting around the 5-9 mark.

I from time to time have false lows because of poorly controlled sugars but that will all settle within a few weeks. Just take your time. Try not to fix everything at once that's how mistakes happen.

Wish you all the best!

Always remember your the boss not the diabetes. Don't let it run you. You can do everything you used to do. It should never stop you.
