Help I just did a random test as I take metformin my reading was 2.6 can someone help. I was told I shouldn't hypo on metformin. I have been having random symptoms this week diarrhoea yesterday tinnitus today feeling sick

wash your hands and test again. If it is still below 4 I would recommend having 15-30g of carbs and defo contract your doctor/diabetic team tomorrow

This has just scared me massively. I actually ate a whole baguette for lunch I know this is risky but I was enjoying it so much and had planned to eat half. Then for tea had about 6 chips 3 tablespoons of rice and chicken curry so how have I gone so low. I have over ate xx

Ok i shovelled a cake down my neck and couple mouthfuls of coke and now it's 7.2 this has freaked me right out as I had no hypo symptoms last time I measured 2.4 I was on gliclazide and they took me off it even then I had no symptoms I was just doing my regular testing

How long after eating did you test, and have you since tested again?
If you are on metformin only, a hypo after such food is something that is either a rogue reading or hypoglycaemic episode.
Which should be investigated.
What were the symptoms that made you test in the first place?

Was about an hour and half after. Just ate cake and now 7.2 I just feel defeated was diagnosed in October with a HBA1C of 100 then my review in January HBA1C was 38 and we had Christmas and party season so was not expecting it to be so low. When first diagnosed they did not know what type I was then on gliclazide I hypoed so they took me off it and said that meant I was type 2

I would have a couple of days being pedantic about testing and seeing what happens.

Trial and error, testing before meals and one hour and two hours after. Just to see what happens, have a few carbs, record everything, that way you can find out what foods you can tolerate. And if you are having hypos!
If you are T2, you should not be going hypo. But I have been surprised to find that some people can.

Best wishes

Thank you for the advice I will do regular tests through out tomorrow and then am seeing diabetic nurse on Thursday xx

hello

yes, you can and I have had hypos whilst on metformin. If you don't eat enough for the exercise you are doing or in this case having the sourappletwostseps you will pass any nutrition out before it can be converted into energy. Your body needs help to fight illness, so eat lots, this is an exception to the normal good diet, when your well get back on it.

Please stay hydrated, get some salts/minerals in to help heal your gut and let those good bacteria get back to work.

my view.
I when ill just make sure I have enough food to fight the illness, I choose not to be perfect that day/days (not going back to a double helping of Singapore noodles!) but supplying the body with what it needs.
