2 meters or is it metres?

Quick for those who prick to check BG
Would you take a spare metre/meter if going to Amsterdam tomorrow and coming home Sunday?
I normally do if I'm away for a week but I'm only taking a small backpack

I don't take a spare meter. You can buy them from most pharmacies if you are very unlucky and yours fails (mine never has).
However, I aways take spare batteries with me ... not just on holiday/overnight trips but any time I leave the house with my meter.

I make sure I take spare insulin pens and insulin and test strips and needles.

I am intrigued by how big your meter is if you are concerned about only taking a small backpack. My meter takes up little room.
Perhaps you are thinking of the whole meter in its case with the lancets, pricker, test strips. I chucked my meter case the day I got my meter as it is just unnecessary bulk and the meter fits on my diabetes kit bag with strips, lancets, insulin pens, hypo treatment and spare insulin.
If you have a spare meter which you want to take with you, it should use the same test strips and finger prickers are universal.

I would unless I was wearing a Libre sensor. If you choose not to and your meter breaks and all pharmacies are closed, join the Facebook group 'Amsterdam durft te vragen' and someone will help you out :)

Hi @SueJB . Personally I would only take one meter, enough test strips plus a few extra and lancet.
Life on the edge, add a bit of danger:):):). Seriously though I do this because I want my diabetes to understand I’m not beholden to it any more than I want to be.
It’s my probably rather silly way of living life with diabetes.
P.S. As already said, if a catastrophe should happen with your meter then you could just go buy a cheap new one for the duration.

Have a great weekend away.

I would take a spare, personally. I keep my meter in a small pencil case-type bag, so a spare would fit in easily without taking up any extra room in a small backpack. For me it wouldn't be worth the stress of trying to replace it if my meter stopped working whilst abroad.

Thanks @helensaramay I never thought about ditching the pouch. The meter is just a normal diddy one, always take spare pens and the like. It was just a thought as I was putting bits into the bag.

Thanks @therower I'm just overthinking!! A weekend away never used to raise questions like this. I used to just think about whether I needed a brollie!

Thanks @sleepster don't like stress, dont handle ambiguity at all well and thinking about where I'd get another meter would worry me. It's a titchy meter anyway so reckon I'm going to take a spare. Thanks for everybody's ideas. Just luv this forum:)

Thanks @Antje77 not got a Libre but useful info about the FB group
Now don't go there asking all kinds of touristy things, they won't like it. It's mainly a group of Amsterdammers asking eachother all kind of things. But it's a very big group and a very friendly group, so useful in emergencies :)
