2017/2018 Football Season

Well, as I predicted, Claude Puel has got the shove from Southampton and they hope to announce his replacement by the end of the month: a bit unfair to him (after all, we finished 8th in the Prem and got to the League Cup final) but he never really inspired the fans, and in spite of finishing only two places below the previous season, that's a bit misleading as we got considerably more points last time out.

As to his replacement; who knows? We'll see soon, I hope .

Daft sacking IMO

But can't blame saints being ambitious he was hardly a disaster

You gonna poach Eddie Howe

Come on the Mighty Scunthorpe United....I wonder if it will allow my home town name or if it gets altered

Can't think what you were worried about s ******* h .... oh now I see it lol

I'm guessing he's on the list of possibles. I'd have liked Marco Silva, but Watford got there ahead of us.

Well we have been paired with Crystal Palace at Selhurst park for our opening match on 12th August. Thank goodness it wasn't someone like Man City :D Certainly be a tester all the same. :wideyed::cool::D

Stuff em 3-0 Huddersfield

Well, the Great Saints Manager sweepstake continues. De Boer has been offered the job at Palace, so he's out (assuming he accepts it) which leaves Pellegrini as the main candidate unless there's a surprise outsider lurking in the wings. Apparently Ryan Giggs would accept the job if it were offered to him. No thanks

Somehow I can't get excited about Pellegrini - don't know why.

He was demonised at City I felt a bit sorry for him

Ryan Giggs you are right to say no thanks

You're right, Ian, I shouldn't pre-judge things. There was massive expectation at Citeh, given the amount of money that was being spent by them and, whilst expectations at St Mary's are pretty high, it's all on a more realistic scale (though Claude P. might not agree with that :)), so maybe, with a bit less pressure, he may deliver the goods. I certainly hope so, and wish him well - if it turns out to be him.

I guess that at least it may act as an incentive for the likes of van Dijk to hang around for a while....

Well, I was close - it's Pellegrino, with an "o". Doh!

Much more interesting, frankly, and more like a Saints choice.

We've just signed Aaron Mooy from Man City for £10M a good buy. He played with us onloan last season and helped us to win promotion. Pep Guardiola never played him in the first squad. We need more than him though we have offered new contracts to some of our team which is a start but alas we need a much stronger squad if we are to stay in the Prem.

A good start, never the less. We have very happy memories of Sir Ricky (Lambert) who was signed from Bristol after being loaned to us when we were in Division 1 and who we finally sold to Liverpool when he'd made a major contribution to our successive promotions to the Championship and the Prem, and played for England.

May you enjoy similar success (including flogging him to Liverpool for too much money, when his career is more or less over :D)

Huddersfield Town have signed Laurent Depoitre from Porto for an undisclosed club record fee.

The Belgian has signed on a two year deal, with Town having the option of a further year.
Who? Laurent Depoitre

Age: 28

Previous clubs: RFC Tournai, RRC Peruwelz, Eendracht Aalst, KV Oostende, Gent, Porto

Current club: Huddersfield Town

Nationality: Belgian

International caps: 1 (1 goal)

Value (according to Transfermarkt): £2.98m

Sounds good to me though I wonder why they have not mentioned the fee paid. Hope he proves his worth. :watching::cool::D

Oh and it seems Leeds's ex manager Gary Monk has gone to the Smoggies (Middlesboro) Wonder how bad they will do with that useless so and so at the helm :D

Too much money eh ? Why to Liverpool ?

There is a long and honourable tradition of Liverpool paying too much for Saints players and I can't help feeling that their largesse should be extended to other fine footie teams, including the Terriers :).

Arguably, Liverpoo did a reasonable deal to get Adam Lallana but they paid absolute top dollar - if not more than top dollar - for Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne, neither of whom have exactly excelled themselves subsequently. Ricky Lambert's move was, let's face it, a sentimental decision both for him and the club (he is a Scouser) and he only appeared in a handful of games before being put out on loan. He is still revered at Saint Mary's, mind you, and rightly so.

Mind you, the biggest steal of the lot was probably Arsenal paying sixteen million quid for Calum Chambers (sorry Xand :))

I see now then :)

Back to the fun again for another season in the national league.
We are favourites for the title, hope so!
The effects of not gaining promotion and a loss in club revenue means there is jobs at risk.
We have only signed one player, Oliver Norburn from Macc, have retained quite a few, but expect a few signings at the end of the month.

A change in the playoffs, where there will be a difference in how to get to wemberley. There will be a six team playoff, squatter finals, semi finals and final. Depending on where you finish, it is a one game shoot out to the next round. Second and third get home advantage in semis.
Only one automatic promotion place again!

Going to be busy next couple of weeks with preseason. Games lined up are liverpoo, bury and fleetwood.

Gonna be fun again!
