But a very strict fat diet, very low carb to achieve a weight loss long term.

So no pasta, no bread, no rice, very limited fruit and veg, no pastry, no beer, otherwise it all goes back on very quickly.

Not a diet that is flexible, and doesn't suit all.

But if it does suit, it's an option to be considered.

To give sandysan an idea, what was your normal days food when you lost the 6 stone?

It's the initial 'leap of faith' after all the bad press that sat fats recieve that is difficult at first to believe but when you see the rewards for yourself when you follow it starting with your scales,BG's and clothes that start to hang off your body then you know it's the right way forward-I love it! :thumbup:

Seemed a fair question to give the op an idea of what sort of regime they need, and if they need to make sure they have a good stock of the right food in, or what they shouldn't eat.

I was in the same position, a "diet" sounded ideal, and indeed several have been suggested, but no one could actually tell me what the diet involved, so in the end I am where I am through trial and error.

An easy, flexible method I can keep up for the rest of my life.

We've given some low carb breakfast ideas as a community but the same question keeps getting asked over and over again and then the OP just starts a new thread asking the same questions that have been answered previously...you do have to put the effort in to lifestyle change to reap the rewards but...as dragon's den would say..."I'm out"

i did in a different thread but if you wish id be happy to again.....

6am
fage full fat greek yogurt, strawberries and or blueberries and or raspberries and or blackberries and or crushed almonds with a sprinkling or linwoods milled flax seed

10am
snack, some almonds or sometimes a atkins chocolate decadence bar
or cafe fry up, but then ill miss 1pm munch

1pm
salad with cheese or cold meat, or cooked chicken drumsticks from sainsburys

6pm
for example but this varies alot
steaks (lots) mushrooms, asparagus
or if they have spag bol i have it with no psta and with homemade sauce with salad
or 3 egg omelette (denver style, with green peppers, red onion and loads of cheese)
homemade fry up (eggs, bacon, mushroom, toms, black pudding and sausages) (not sure about black pudding but love it too much to check)
there are too many combinations to mention

after dinner and most important
X2 sugar free jellies with double cream

in the evening a little 85% chocolate

sunday normally roasted meat (lots) and veggies (lots) no spuds or yorkshires (awwwww)

i also exercise (currently jog/run (debatable) about 30k a week) but didnt start until id roughly lost a couple of stone

oh sorry i forgot to mention its like the great british low carb bake off, i pretty much always make some nice low carb treats and try not to eat em all before there cold yumm

That's my point.

I was there, the op is 2 weeks into it, and if they were like me, in shock, and completely out of my depth.
So I'm happy to come back now I've got somewhere, and I'm happy to help anyone that needs help to try to make a few changes.
What I've done works for me, and my lifestyle.
It won't work for everyone.
It's only fair to say that.

I tried the "low carb", and found it didn't work for me. No one told me what I couldn't eat, how finding any food when out was nearly Impossible, without leaving half of it, buying pork pies from Tesco. eating just the meat, then realising most of the meat was rusk, same with sausages, or bacon sandwiches and eating just the bacon.
And the need for continuous anti acids.
And no beer.

So while it suits some, it's only fair to point out the downsides, and it's a complete change that has to happen for life.
As with any change of lifestyle.

thats unfair, what program that makes such improvements is painless? because you didnt want to find out which sausages to buy or not drink beer isnt a negative against low carbing its a choice you made, it in no way suggests it dosent work mate :) it just means you didnt want to follow that way of eating

opinions again lol

i myself have found it amazing, my wife has lost weight just by reducing the carbs my daughters bg is better because moderating carbs, my niece low carbing has lost 3 stone my next door neighbour has lost a stone and loves me lol, my brother who i work with has lost 1 and a half stone on moderate carbs, none of these apart from daughter has diabetes, how can i not promote this way?

Not so different really, no snacks, set meals, I just cut the fat as well.



I have to be honest, it read like you were on bacon every meal, so here's my version

low fat yogurt,
a few strawberries


snack, maybe ryvita and cottage cheese


salad with small amount cold meat,

mushrooms, asparagus
or if they have spag bol i have it with no pasta and with homemade sauce with salad maybe quorn, or no mince
or 3 egg omelette with green peppers, red onion and no cheese


sunday normally roasted meat (a little) and veggies (lots) no spuds or yorkshires

I also exercise - local gym


some wine/beer occasionally,
more fruit,
and with an eye on the calories, so a lot of veg/salad, little meat generally.

I'm starting to think any successful diet is just a diet.

Low carbs, low fat, low calorie, they work if you don't simply eat all day, whether it's bread or bacon by the pound.

Thinking about what I eat, it probably is low(ish) carb, as well as low fat, and low calorie, but I can have days where I can mix and match.

im sure your right, if i had done a different diet and stuck to it im sure id have lost weight therefore probly reduced my bg

It's finding one that I can stick to, and my killer was unpredictable working times, and long working days.

Mine worked for me though. (Eventually)

And reducing my meds is a big plus for me.
